Need Computer help, please

For some reason when I open a new window on my computer it ends up being a small window instead of the full screen window I use to get. I use Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 and I run XP. I have grabbed the edges of the small window and pulled it to full size, but next time I open the page it's small again. It requires I click the "maximize" box in the upper right to go full screen or pull it out again. I have searched for something that will set it to open full size, but to no avail. My guess is there is a switch (or whatever you call it) to instruct the window to open full size, but can't find it. ANY HELP

I tried pressing the control key after I resized it, but it didn't help. I read farther down the thread you recommended and downloaded IE New Windows Maximizer program and now the windows open to full size. The only drawback is the windows first open small and within a second they open to full size, so it's a double action that is a distraction, but at least I don't have to take any action to get it to full size. I was surprised how many people on the thread you recommended had the same problem and it's connected to IE7. Most like me had used IE& for months without a problem, then all of a sudden IE only open small windows.

Maximize Internet Explorer On Opening

Problem: When Internet Explorer opens it can range in size anywhere from that of a postage stamp to almost filling the screen. Clicking the maximize button works for that particular window but the next time you open IE the same situation repeats.

Solution: The default behavior for Internet Explorer is to open at the same size it was at the last time it was closed. While the default does apply in many cases it's not always consistent. Try the following workaround.

Open a single Internet Explorer window to the smaller size.
Drag the corners of the window until it completely fills the screen. Do not use the maximize button to enlarge the window.
Hold down the Ctrl key, keep it depressed, and using the mouse click File and then Exit on the menu bar. Do not use the "X" in the upper right corner to close the window.
Internet Explorer should now open in a full window.
If it still opens to a smaller size repeat the above instructions, substituting the "Shift" key for the "Ctrl" key.

Thanks for your input, unfortunately this didn't work for me. To test it I deleted IE Maximizer and gave it a try, but holding down the Ctrl or Shift key while clicking Exit just didn't help. Next time I opened the window it was small again. Very strange. I did learn something though, I learned that I had to "Exit" IE Maximizer in order to delete the program file. It kept telling me it was being used even after I uninstalled it. This is a learning experience.

Did you restart you PC after deleting the Maximizer program? Sometimes it takes a fresh reload for the Windows registry to get current status about your system.

As for your minimum window size problem, you should be able to launch IE, size the window however you want, then click File and Close without holding down a CTRL key (or any other key.) When you next launch IE, it should reopen at the same size it was when you closed it. (This is basically what is referenced above, only with the CTRL key.) Try that.

lol, it seems like nobody bothered to read the thread I posted the link to, and they are all just repeating things you've already tried. I guess it's nice that they are trying to help.

This is a ridiculous IE and/or Windows bug, I guess. If we delve deeper, we might be able to find the registry key where the size/position is stored and try deleting it, I guess. If you really want to try that, try searching for that info. I suppose it's possible that iexplore.exe might be running when you exit (for some other reason) and the change is being overwritten. there used to be some form of active desktop thing that used iexplore.exe, so it might be running. Are you using something like that? You might try looking in taskmgr to see if iexplore.exe is still running after you exit IE7. That's really a shot in the dark. One way around all that might be to boot in safe mode, open IE, resize it, close it, then boot normally?

BTW, does FF do the same thing? Why not just get rid of that maximizer program and use FF instead? Though, I'd still want to try to fix this anyway, because it would annoy me also.

I have solved the problem, with the help of those of you that offered help. The solution is in a very small free software program (.27MB) called "Autosizer 1.7". As stated above I uninstalled "IE Maximizer" and tried everyones recommendations, but found they just didn't work for me, but the more I read on the internet (your guidance David) I found this program on http://autosizer.en.softonic.com . I installed the program and restarted my computer (something the site doesn't tell you to do) and sure enough all windows open to full size and it happens in one fluid motion, not like the Maximizer program. My search on the web indicated this is a big problem for many and crops up all of a sudden after months of using IE7 without any problems. A good example is KCI's laptop shows none of the sizing problems that I had (at least not yet). So once again I'd like to thank you for your assistance

Try Autosizer, it works for me with both IE7 and Firefox3.
