Nearly 30% of food delivery drivers munch on your food in the car, study says

Yeah, yeah ... I know it's an old headline, but I'm pretty sure it happened to us last night.

Feeling lazy and wanting asian food, I started looking at Uber Eats. Armed with a $15 off coupon we chose a restaurant which was further away than I had expected. Realizing that I had expected to increase the tip after delivery. After receiving the order, hell no!

We had ordered 2 pork egg rolls and crab rangoon (6) as appetizers. When I opened the bag, there was 1 pork egg roll and 5 crab rangoon!

The order was in one bag which did not allow them to tightly tie the plastic bag shut, so there was enough room for someone's grubby hand to rummage through the order. The restaurant should have split it into multiple bags allowing them to be tightly closed to be tamper resistant, I will not order from them again.

I can't PROVE that the driver stole our food, but I think that the 5, not 6, crab rangoon would not be a mistake that the restaurant would make.

I did not rate the driver as there was no direct proof, would you have given them a thumbs down?

ETA: I did Thumbs Down rate the restaurant for bad packaging and shorted items.

I would have called the restaurant (or Uber Eats) and informed them of the missing items. If they were sure that they put the correct quantities in the bag then you would know for sure it was the delivery driver.

I did report it to Uber Eats. I got refunded for the egg roll and a $5 coupon. I'll let them hash it out between the driver and the restaurant.

I don't order from those services. I did order at 5 guys and then watched the uber eats driver pick up this orders and then go to his car and just grazing on the fries. Why did I know it was an uber eats order, when I went inside to pick it up the Uber Eats guy was just in front of me. He pick up the food went to the car, ate fries, surfed he phone for about 5 mins then left to deliver the order.

We use the gift card discounts and discount codes and then go pick it up ourselves.

It turns my stomach that a 3rd party which has been touching his phone (very dirty) and ??? has been touching the food.

FWIW...We almost got hit by a delivery driver rushing by on our street as we were backing into our driveway.

I have never used delivery drivers - past, present and in the future. The potential of driver contaminating the food that I will put in my mouth is enough for me to pass on it.
Ahhh, you have never worked in a restaurant, I take it.

Nope. My husband has a tendency to be vocal about being unhappy with his food and I have to repeatedly remind him that someone was going to spit into his food when they remake it.

Most UE orders we get now have tamper-proof seals or the bags are tied with tight knot on top.

One of many reasons i wont ever use delivery and always pick up our take out order the few times we do.

We have ordered food delivery many, many times and we've never seen any signs that the driver tampered with the food in any way. That 30 percent number seems incredible to me.

It's not claiming that 30% of all deliveries have missing food, it is saying that 30% of the delivery people have taken some food at some point in time. Big difference.

We don't use food delivery service mostly because we doubt the drivers can find our house.

Correct, and that was a 2019 poll. No mention the size and how it was taken.

We have used Uber Eats many times and this was the first time there was an issue. I wish there was a way I could flag this bozo never to serve us again.

Old news. Happens all the time. Doesn’t stop me from ordering now and then when needed, and I typically only order from those that have been very good with packing. I order from California Chicken Cafe on occasion (great salads and chicken), and they zip tie the bag - which shows they know of the concern that it is unopened from store to me.

Exactly! I thumbs downed this establishment vigorously.

Gross. Blatantly inappropriate. Aside from pizza, I have yet to have food delivery. Now I’m too far away from any food maker to want my chow to be in transit. I generally make most of what I eat anyhow.

Based on your previous posts, I'm shocked you didn't admit you grow and make all the food you eat... ;)

It took me 10 reads to sort of figure out what you were saying. At first I thought the Uber eats driver was grazing on the fries you ordered at 5 Guys. After that I spun down the rabbit hole.

Sorry, I hate the grammar police, but please slow down a bit, preview your post, and add appropriate punctuation such as question marks, etc.

Oh, phew. Thanks for this. I still feel like it's a big number! But definitely not AS big.

Big time carnivore, zero livestock. I am nowhere near the point of growing enuf to sustain me a year. Not into canning, no deep freeze offgrid. However, from first time with a house in 94, I have had a garden. I was growing organic long before I ever heard the term.
