I grew up going to a timeshare in the rockies and it turned out to be a good deal for all of those years. Now Im in my mid thirties and looking at a timeshare of my own MAYBE. Instead of getting a timeshare that can impact my credit score if one walks away. Is there much availability of timeshares that have near by expiration dates, say 1-5 years. I read the term on this site about sunset clause. How does one find resorts that are coming up for renewal? When someone advertises they dont just put how long till the timeshare expires in most cases. Im use to fixed weeks rather than points as one knows what they are getting. But Im a noob with the points so that might be a option if I could just buy/sign up for points for a few years

Is there some resorts that sell short dated timeshares? Or there is some list of resort that are coming up to the sunset clause?

The idea is to exchange the week into II or RCI, would be nice to be in both with one timeshare. Its not imperative that I use the week myself; unless the place grows on me. As long the MF is reasonable.

Thank you in advance

There isn’t a list that I know of for a centralized listing. What you may be looking for is more of a Right-to-use concept than deeded timeshare ownership. Disney is probably the most prominent one that comes to mind (but is expensive to get into).

Even if a resort is coming to the sunset date, the owners may decide to extend that date. I’d recommend looking at systems that have good deedback policies if you are worried about exiting (which is smart that you’re considering this now).

I’d recommend doing a new post using the following template linked below. You’ll get some good feedback from members here on if a timeshare is a good idea for you, and if so, which resorts or systems would be good for your lifestyle. Personally, I would always want to buy something that has value, this will make it easier to sell or give away in the future.

What should I buy?

I am more looking of what you kinda said of a good deedback policies or of fixed weeks to expire and I would know what all of the terms are upfront. Bearing if the resort has something unseen. Im one who would like to extend stays as long as one can. No Im not going to the desert in a heatwave but Rockies in the shoulder season. Or Hawaii on the cheap exchange. Not picky just like the sense of adventure and to be able to stay at nice places. To be able to balance timeshares and hostels. I can spend if the value is there for reselling.

I think the closest thing to what you're looking for is a vacation club, and they're not really timeshares exactly. Search this forum for the few discussions about them, but even less people use them (at least on here) and less info is out there to understand before buying. Almost no timeshares have a resale value. However, if you get a desirable week / system, you can likely give it away reasonably easily when done here on TUG or eBay for $1 or the like.
