Has anybody ever experienced Newport Coast Villas during the Christmas/holiday week?

We've been there at peak season but never holiday time....

Are there on-site activities all week? Weather decent? Any other thoughts?

Christmas is a wonderful time. They have a Newport harbor Christmas boat parade and fun to watch and participate, if you can. I grew up on Balboa Island, another must see and walk around the bay front. Fun times, shopping at Fashion island. Have fun.

I would call the resort directly and speak to the concierge.

We are there every year at that time. For the week leading up to Christmas, the property usually has a full slate of activites, and even adds some extra holiday-related events. Some years they have carolers with holiday beverages/treats. Recently they have had a holiday fair that week with a petting zoo and a small train for the kids, games, snacks, etc.

However, I think that the week between Christmas and New Year's the activities schedule is slightly reduced. I say that only based upon the weekly activity list that they post in the elevators.

One small annoyance that time of year is parking. The property will be packed, so parking at night will be tight.

But one nice benefit is that the lowest tides of the year fall during that time frame, and Crystal Cove has some great tidepools to explore. The park even has a ranger-led tidepool tour on the lowest tide day.

That would be disappointing as that would be the time of year I would think many families with children are at the property.

How is the weather that time of year? Mild enough to use the pool? I know from prior visits that their pools are not heated.

It is cold. There are a few kids who go into the pool but not me. It also may drizzle during that time of the year.

I live 15 min from NCV, the only swimming will be in the hot tubs. We go to Scottsdale for the holiday week to visit family and swim there.

Crystal Cove has lost much of the sand from storms this past winter, lots of rocks showing so tidepooling is great. The rangers have a card to identify what can be found.

If you have kids you may want to take them to Legoland. They have fireworks and "snow days" over the winter holidays. Pretty fun. And the crowds are fine. It's not super crazy at Legoland.

Weather in SoCal may be cool (about 60 - 65) but compared to NYC it will seem very nice.

As long as it does not rain and temperatures are in 60s it'll be fine. We have plans to go to Disneyland and SD Zoo as well as spending days on the property.

Expect Dland and zoo to be crowded. Very crowded.

Consider the Wild Animal Park(I don't remember what they call it now). I enjoyed it as much as the zoo. It's closer to NCV. But it's hard to go wrong visiting SD.

I have had weather in the 80's for Christmas week. You never know.

I always enjoy walking the beach at NCV. Had great weather in March this year. Mid 70's and clear. Beautiful views of Catalina Island from the beach.

Some activities like the nearby Boat Parade or Shopping Center tree lighting is over. The standard activity is Disney, or Universal Studios up towards L.A..
Have you check with the Conceirge? For OC the evenings are cooler. I would take a day visit to Catalina Island, or a ocean whale watching trip.

Hopefully this thread will provide a little info-

Does anybody have feedback as to on site activities at this property during Christmas/New Years week?

Your thread was merged with an older one. Go back to post 1 and start reading.

We went on a whale watching cruise with Davey Jones Landing. They have great specials on Groupon. We saw perhaps 5,000 sea birds in huge groups feasting on small fish, plus perhaps 1000 dolphins feeding on the same small fish. Even though we didn't see any whales it was still quite enjoyable.

I would think that if you went to the shopping center, Fashion Island, that you'd see some pretty lighting displays.

For activities, if there aren't enough on-site, consider going to Disneyland, the La Brea tar pits, Universal studios, etc. Also, going to Catalina can be fun. Consider staying overnight. I think that you'll find that the week goes quickly.

BTW, I was there last week. The weather was cool (60's and lower 70's, except for one day of rain). DW brought a DVD movie. No problem with the weather.
