This is my 3rd summer in my home and each year I attempted to attract and feed hummingbirds. Summers #1 and #2 were a bust. This year though they are showing up and I'm honestly obsessed. So I bought a feeder with a camera and it's so much fun.

The feeder takes video and the audio with each clip is fun too. Just hearing the hummmmmm of their wings is just very cool.

We love to feed the humming birds too. You may already know this, but humming birds don't like the commercial feed mix you can buy. They prefer the homemade version:

Put 3 C. water in a large pyrex measuring cup or bowl (microwave safe)
Heat 4 min. in the microwave
While hot, stir in 3/4 cups cane sugar.
When cool - poor into humming bird feeder.

If you have a different size feeder the ratio is 1/4 C. sugar per 1 C. water.

Oh yes. I make it myself. Only the best for my feathered friends. I’m meticulous with cleaning the feeders & changing out the nectar bc …they deserve it.

We run our humming bird feeders through the dishwasher - easy peasy.

We are anti-feeders of any type - Birds, Squirrels, Hummingbirds, Deer, Bears, Mountain Lions, etc. We do plant numerous Plants that produce seeds for a variety of animals and lots of flowers for bees and HummingBirds. We also have a Fountain that provides water for many animals.

We had Hummingbird feeders while in Wisconsin and we love to see them too. Ours really like the commercial feed but we mostly used our own. We had our right by our kitchen window. Many times they would turn to look at us watching them.👍

There is a bit of oral history in eastern NC about hummingbirds and the War Between the States. After the yankees had taken the river port of Washington, NC in 1862, some of the crewmen on a Union gunboat which was docked on the waterfront were fascinated with hummingbirds and asked a group of local boys who were gawking at the gunboat if they knew where they could get some. One volunteered that he knew where a whole nest of them was and he could go get it for a dollar. The boys went to a hornet's nest, plugged the opening with clay and took it back to the gunboat. They told the yankee sailors that they flew fast, so not to open the nest until they went inside the boat and closed everything up. Then they watched from a distance, and soon the hatches were flung open and the sailors evacuated the boat as fast as they could.
