My husband just recently passed away. Social Security gives a benefit of $255. His 401 and IRA's were rolled over into my name. Each company will send you a form to fill out and then you send it back with a copy of the death certificate. I had no problems at all. Just keep notes on who you spoke to as well as a copy of the form you send back. You may need to reference it in a follow up email or phone conversation. Everything went quickly and smoothly. I anticipated a lot of hassels--so don't stress out. Everyone will work with you on this cause they seem to understand what your going through. My other bit of advice--I got a new will and medical directive within a month to make sure my kids would have things all go smoothly upon my death. My heartfelt thoughts to you......Jan
