We own a small number of points and a deeded 2-bedroom lockoff with Diamond Resorts/Hilton. I like depositing our timeshares into II but was also curious about what we could get out of DEX. First of all, I have to call in to deposit the deeded week. I can't do it online.

  • This is the sidebar menu we see when we log into the website. What is the difference between Destination Exchange and Traditional Destination Exchange?

I was told that I use the Traditional Destination Exchange menu for our deeded week and I use the Destination Exchange menu for our points.
  • Our 2-bedroom lockoff is at Tier 6. The agent said that if I deposited the 2 bedroom as a whole unit, I would get a week at Tier 6. ( He said that with tiers in DEX, it doesn't matter if you have a 2-bedroom or a 1-bedroom. Huh??) If I split our week and deposited a 1-bedroom and a studio instead, he could give me a 1-bedroom at Tier 6 and a studio at Tier 4. In all the videos and articles I read about DEX, I don't remember hearing about this. There's always only 2 of us travelling so a 2-bedroom is unnecessary for us. So I agreed to deposit as a split unit.
  • Moreover, he said that if I exchanged my 1-bedroom Tier 6 into a 1-bedroom Tier 1 or 2, they would give me another 1-bedroom at Tier 2. If I exchanged the Tier 4 studio into a Tier 1 studio, they would give me another studio at Tier 1. I'm not sure what Tier 1 or Tier 2 resorts look like but I agreed anyway. It felt like I was sitting in a timeshare presentation and not talking to Customer Service.
Is this similar to what you have been offered for your deposits at DEX? Were there any mis-truths in what he told me? I logged in and checked my deposits, I did see the 2 deposited weeks just as he described.

:oops:o_O:confused::eek:

All of your questions are answered in the DEX membership guide located in this post (note: you want to look at the DEX Guide for US Deeded Weeks Owners.)
Sorry that I can not post the guide here because it is too large for that.

Here is a snippet from the guide (btw: tier level doesn't refer to the quality of the resort. It refers to the exchange value or requirement)

Is one a tier 6 and the other a tier 4? Which resort where you own the deeded week? Which week do you own?

@clipper what deed do you own? Could the CSR have been referring to your points in addition to your deed?

Thank you for this. I did not see the guide for deeded weeks.

I asked him if there was a way to combine our deeded week with our points. He said no. I thought he would tell me that if I buy some points from the developer, I could convert the deeded week into points at the same time, but he did not even mention it. He did try to tell me that I now own HGVC and all the resorts are now part of Hilton. I told him my resort is HVC, not HGVC. I was on guard during the whole conversation, watching out for any llies or slight of words that he might use.

Customer service really has no reason to lie. The bigger problem with them is ignorance where they simply don't know the answer to a question and make something up instead. I don't think they would lie about something you couldn't actually do.

@clipper Very interesting info. Thanks for sharing. Do you own a 2BDR Villa" or 2 BDRM Ste" at Polo Towers. Do you know if one of the 2 bdrms is not a lockoff? For reference, here is the DEX EU Chart (I assume it is the same as the U.S. DEX)

We own a lockoff at the at Polo Tower Suites, not the Villas. Based on this chart, it looks like our week 12 is on high season, not peak season. Just lucky that it's still a tier 6. Not bad for a resale we purchased way back in 2003.

Yes it is.

@clipper, IMO you are getting excellent value for your deposits. For example, I am depositing a 3BR Craig non-LO with MFs at $1355.61 and only getting one tier 6 deposit. Even so, I am very impressed with the inventory available in DEX. I am getting some excellent trades to places not available to me in HGVC such as 3BR Grand Penthouse at HVC Cabo Azul, 2BR Townhouse at Embarc Panorama during ski and fall seasons, 2BR Jolee Island room at Embarc/HGVC Sandestin and 2BR LO at Embarc/HGVC Whistler during ski season.

Thanks I'm quite happy with what we get out of our timeshares. We just try to plan ahead and be flexible with our vacations. I'm sure I will have no problem finding something we want on the HCV website.

@clipper Did you have to do anything / pay anything to get access to DeX with your deeded week? Do you know what the process looks like to enroll a resale deeded week at Polo Towers into DeX?

We did not have to do anything to get our resale deeded week into DEX. We owned at Polo Towers before it was part of Diamond. When it became part of Diamond, we already hadd our points contract. We were given another account to login for our deeded week so we ended up with 2 DRI accounts. Sometime along the way, we were offered to convert the deeded week into points but we did not bite. It was very tempting bcuz I think planning with points is easier and offer more value. But we did not want to throw in more good money after the bad. I'm now glad that we did not bcuz the maint fees are cheaper for the deeded week and now it seems that I can get multiple weeks out of our 1 week with Polo towers. When DRI was taken over by Hilton, they set us up as one account with 2 contracts and immediately I could use DEX for both contracts.

I don't know if we will be offered this same arrangement the next time we deposit this week with DEX in 2 years.

I think the Polo Towers 2 bedroom lockoffs are great bang for your buck with DEX exchanges. I've gone to Cabo Azul a bunch of time with family. One year we had three 2-bedroom units and a 1-bedroom unit at Cabo Azul for me and all my cousins and all our kids. I used two years worth of my Polo Towers Weeks, splitting the two bedrooms into two units and getting four units to exchange. I had to pay some tier upgrades, but it worked out really well for us. I dropped my II and RCI memberships and now use only DEX for my deeded weeks along with my old "Diamond" points account. Haven't updated that to HVC - haven't seen a need as I plan far in advance...

When I go on DEX and look at the Polo Tower Villas offered, for the most part, one and two bedroom suites both offer at tier 6. Studios are offered at tier 5. I'm surprised that there is usually no difference from booking either a one or two bedroom suite. Any ideas on that?

I don't have DEX, but none of that sounds like that to me, and I am highly 👿 about "getting sold". Just my $0.02. Other $0.02 is that is very interesting, thanks for the details

DEX has many units at Tier 6. If they had a higher tier, the two bedroom units would be the higher tier. It's just about availability. If a 2 bedroom is available, a person would pick the 2 bedroom over the 1 bedroom.

resale deeded weeks (not US or Hawaii Collection ownerships) are great for DEX, particularly if you can get a deeded lockoff unit. Many can get you two great weeks. It's similiar to II or RCI where a lockoff gets you two units (or more points in the case of RCI). It's just that with DEX, you know exactly what the value of what you are depositing is, and you know exactly what it will "cost" (in tier credit and/or upgrade to higher tier fees) to reserve an available unit. Everyone can see everything that is available - I like (what seems to me to be) the full transparency of DEX.

Of course, Hilton could at any time decide to change the rules for DEX. I'm hoping they are making enough money with DEX that they decide to keep things the way they are. The flexibility is nice, and the resort choices work well for me.

I decided to bank into DEX my deeded resale 2026 Polo Towers Villa (one bedroom). Last year, I received a tier 5 for the deposit. This year, I got a tier 6 deposit. Last year, I had to pay the tier upgrade ($225) to get a tier 6 trade. So I am very happy that my week is now tier 6.

@rpennisi, what do you think about the availability of the inventory in DEX?
