Troll? How about posting the link to that website if this was true?

Dioxide - Someone on the Ocean Pointe Yahoo newsgroup today DID post that they had attended a Mayan sales presentation in Mexico last week and was told by a senior rep there Marriott selling MVCI was a done deal and that the buyer was Wyndyam. (I just read it right before coming over to read here.)

The poster also went on to say that they then made their 2011 MVCI reservation and, while on the phone, asked the owner services' rep about the rumor. The MVCI rep's response was that he had not heard of any potential sale.

The poster also expressed surprise and his intent on posting this on the newsgroup was to try to find out if there was any truth or was it just sales BS.

Note: the poster also signed his name to the e-mail and remember that, in order to join the group, you must own at OP, and apply and be accepted into the group.

The post just raised suspicion since they signed up just today to post this.

Mayan isn't owned by Wyndham or Marriott, so I don't see how a sales person there would have any inside information to this. The post just didn't pass the sniff test.

Also, if the Ocean Pointe group is like the Grande Vista owners group. Someone wanting to join only has to attest that they are owners. There really is no verification of ownership when someone asks to join other than their word.

A possible explanation...

It has been reported by reputable sources that Marriott has been considering selling their land in Cancun where they had planned to build a new timeshare resort. It is possible that Marriott is negotiating to sell that parcel to Wyndham.

However, I feel pretty confident that Marriott is NOT remotely considering selling the MVCI brand to Wyndham. Some of these rumors really get carried away.

At least, a senior rep is a lot better reference than the bus driver in Orlando saying Marriott would manager DVC!:hysterical:

Actually, I would trust the bus driver's report before I would trust the word of most timeshare sales reps - senior or not! :)

No

Especially in Cancun. My most high pressure sales pitches came out of Cancun.

In any case is it even possible to "sell mvci"? Am I delusional to think that Marriott doesn't actually own the resorts after they are sold that they only manage them???

Beverley :ponder:

It's true that we as timeshare owners are the owners. However, MVCI is the unit of Marriott that manages the timeshare resorts and sells the timeshares, generating significant revenue and profit for Marriott. Thus, MVCI has significant value and could be sold.

I agree with Doug's analysis! :)

Never thought much about this.... but who "owns" the grounds, pools, lobbies, etc?

$ $ $

I know that there are CELL transponders towards the top of the Lahaina tower at MOC/MMO. A CELL company should be paying for this service, so does the money go to the owners?

What about the leased space for shopping and the space that Marriott uses for their sales. Does the rent go to the owners for this?

You should be able to find these items on the owner annual report. The lease revenue from the cell phone provider should be included under revenue as well as revenue from the leased space.
