MVC - We have so many questions!

So if you have a Marriott week and trade into Interval, do you need to wait for that exact week to come available in Interval? Can you go other weeks if they are in the same "season"? If you have a week in a 1 bedroom, can you possibly get a week in a 2 bedroom through Interval?

Your week you are giving up is gone of course (in Interval) but the week you get once you accept a trade can be any season. So, you could in theory trade the lowest season week you can get at your resort, and, get a high season week (or any other week). You can also trade a studio for a 1BR, 2BR, whatever though there is a small upsize fee. Or a 1BR for a studio, 2BR, etc. So, no you are not limited by your season or size. What you are limited by is availability and potentially trading power. That being said, within 60 day inventory can be real good too if you are flexible. Many people are surprised at what they can get.

You can either deposit your unit first, or, request a trade first. You can have Interval continually check for a list of places and dates, or, you can manually search yourself. I generally use that last method. Often I don't care where I am going, I just care it's an awesome trade and is somewhere I'd gladly go. So, as an example, I recently traded a desert studio for a 2BR Waiohai on Kauai. I'd take that trade any day. I've seen posted here many a time that it's hard to trade into Waiohai, but with persistence and flexibility, you'd be very pleasantly surprised where you can go. But many do not have that ultimate flexibility, so as always, it depends.

As I mentioned in the post you quoted, we don't like trading in Interval, so we use our deeded Hawaii weeks and then use Destination Points when we want to travel elsewhere. We haven't traded in Interval much and haven't traded at all in 4 or 5 years. Others on TUG can offer more insight into the ins-and-outs of trading, but to answer your most basic questions - when you deposit a week into Interval you can request any other week within, I think, two years of the date of the week you deposit, any season. You can also request a larger or smaller unit. Whether you actually get that request depends on the quality of the week you deposit and its "Trading Power." A prime season week in Hawaii will have more trading power than a winter week in Hilton Head, SC, for example. Whether the request gets fulfilled also is dependent on what other owners deposit. If no one deposits what you are looking for, even the highest power weeks won't be able to get that week/location. Think of it like you deposit a week into the pool, and then you can withdraw any other week that someone else has deposited into that pool, as long as a higher power week doesn't get it instead of you.

The whole trading power thing is sort of a "black box" in that no one really knows whether their request will be fulfilled or not, and Interval doesn't really disclose their matching methodology/algorithms. You make your deposit, then make a request for a location to travel to, a date range, and a unit size and then wait to see if they can find a match. If your week has higher trading power (i.e. prime season/prime location) your odds are better.
Awesome. This is helpful, Thanks! What are the most popular "higher value" timeshare companies that trade into Interval? I know Marriott. But are there others?

We have probably had over 50 successful Interval trades since we first purchased with MVC, almost all into other MVC resorts.
If you have a request in with Interval you don’t need to wait for that exact request to be fulfilled, you can search for other options whilst you are waiting and it does not have to be in the same season.
We have exchanged into higher seasons and larger units, although you do now have to pay an upgrade fee for larger unit sizes.

If you go to intervalworld.com, click on explore and plan and then resort directory you will see the member resorts. You don’t need to be a member or have a log in to see it.

As an MVC week owner for 12 years and I have never stayed at my home resort- I always exchange on II.
I own a gold week so I can’t get the maximum trading power but I find by depositing my week and requesting far in advance (usually about a year) I am already “in line” when the unit I want if deposited.
I don’t believe trading power is the biggest issue in most cases, it’s availability. Owners have choices of what to do with their week- stay, rent or deposit on II. Planning ahead has helped me get what I want.

Hyatt has some excellent properties enrolled in Interval. They are exceptional, just not very numerous. Hilton Grand Vacation Club is another popular option.
