Hey everyone,

We are going to Alaska at the end of this month and will be staying on the Kenai Peninsula (Close to Soldotna, Homer, Seward, Cooper's Landing) and I was wondering if anyone can recommend some of the must see area's in the southern part of the state. We will not be going north of Anchorage at all (Only staying on the southern peninsula). Thanks

Scott,

We're going to Alaska in June/July for a mix of business and pleasure! I can hardly wait!!!

Are you going to be in a timeshare? I was surprised I couldn't find one so we're doing a B&B before my business and a wilderness lodge in Denali after.

As for "must see or do's" . . . I'm told that you cannot go to this part of the world and not do one of the glacier cruises. We booked a small charter type (max six people) for just a little more than the big tour groups charge and I know we'll have a better experience for it. We are going with Sound Eco Adventure (www.soundecoadventure.com) although they are out of Whittier, maybe it will work for you or there is a similar type company over in Seward.

If you haven't already done so, you may want to pick up the Frommer's Alaska book. It has been very useful to us already in just selecting our accommodations.

Many of the "must see" places are not accessible by car. You either need to boat or fly in. I must admit, one of the airtours into a remote area of southern Alaska is very intriguing to me but probably beyond my financial resources. If you enjoy hiking, I would venture to guess you can find wonderful areas to explore where you are going to be.

Please be sure to post (or write me personally offlist) after your trip!

Have a great time!

Yvonne

JeffV . . . thanks for that tip! And best of all, it is available on Amazon.com at a reduced price ($16.98 vs $26.95). I'm going to order one right away!!
