Got an email today from Marriott Rewards (MR) that Marriott has detected a small number of accounts getting hacked and they recommend/require me to change my passoword.

Doesn't sound good. I am still disappointed Vacation club is not using EV security certificates, that can help prevent issues like these but it costs a few bux more.

Just make sure you don't use any links in that email to make any changes.

Go to the site another way and change your password.

I got it too. There is no link to change password, I think it is a legit email. Also:

As of August 8th, 2013 you will not be able to access your online account from your mobile device until you have changed your password. Please change your password on Marriott.com from your desktop; updates cannot be made on Marriott mobile applications.

legit

I called the Marriott Rewards telephone number as listed on the website, the rep had me forward the email to them, she took my phone number and said she would have it researched and would call me back. After 10 minutes she called me back and said it was indeed legit, and to please follow the instructions.

I got the same but it was a month ago. It said mine wasn't hacked but suggested I change it anyway. I left it be because I look at my account almost daily.

I haven't received the email for either my account or DH's. Guess it's time to change my password anyway. Thanks for the info!

Just tried to call Marriott Platinum Customer Support again to ask a completely different and unrelated question, and the "wait time" due to high call volume was "16 minutes"-----my suspicion is that they are being inundated with calls concerning this issue. I hung up and will call later.

Regarding the email received suggesting a p/w change, I went ahead and changed my password as suggested. No big deal.

A thread was started last week on flyertalk by someone whose account had been hacked and a few others posted that the same thing happened to them recently. Another poster said the warning email that they got from Marriott was dated Jul 16.

I haven't gotten an email but agree with all of you that it's probably time to change the password anyway just to be safe.

I got the e mail and wasn't hacked but I changed the password anyway. I think it is a legit e mail from Marriott. Better to be safe than sorry. Mine also said that the old password would not be valid after 8/8.

Today while trying to sign in a page came up that required me to confirm account information and change the password. Just a heads-up that some of you might see the same thing, even if you hadn't gotten the email warning. No problems in the account otherwise.

Yes, it seems that this will affect everyone, and it is likely everyone will need to change their password at some point....

I was just prompted to change my password when checking the Marriott site.

Thanks for the heads up.

H,
I had a lot of trouble trying to change my password. It kept saying fix the field (no field specified) and try again.
Finally after a couple of days of trying intermittently it worked fine.

After reading about this on TUG a few days ago I also went in to check points, and was promted to change the password before signing in, but had never received the email. Haven't checked my MR account yet as most points are in my husband's, but also went to USAirways account to change password there as they also had hacking problems. Not required to change at USAirways though.

My "Cheat Sheet" booklet for our passwords is running out of space with all the changes!

Same here for DW and I. No e-mail but were forced to change our passwords.

I am having the same trouble right now! Have tried multiple times without luck. Called Marriott and the recording said the wait was time 23 minutes.
