MR points 10 for every $ at these hotels

Recently I started to travel for business and got the MR Card on a 80K promo. I always thought that you got 5 points per $. I was surprised to learn that you can actually earn 10 per $ when paying per room rate at all hotels except Residence Inn, and Towne Place.

Is this something new? If so when did this change?

This is a good thing to know. We tend to knock MR program alot, but the more I look and earn in MR points I am getting to be a points junkie.

NO I AM NOT GOING ON ANY TS TOURS for MR points.... Just had to say that.
 
Not new, this is the basis for the entire MR program. You earn 10 points per $ just for staying and being a MR member. You might get more if you have a higher elite status. It has nothing to do with the credit card.

Its actually better than that. As you pointed out, most Marriott flags will get you 10 points per room rate $1 spent, but the higher end flags get you 10 points per qualifying charge, which ends up being most things you charge to your room. On top of that, if you have status, like Platinum, where you get a 50% points bonus, that can effectively make the 10 points become 15 points, then if you charge it to your MR CC, you get another 5 points per Marriott spend, so you can effectively get 20 points per dollar spent. They add up quickly.
 
Just got gold. Looks like I will get Plat by end of year.:clap:

Also enrolled in both current promo programs now. These are the good times when I enjoy spending my money at Marriott

The 5 points per $ on the MFs is through the Chase Credit Card. Points earned from hotel stays 10 p/$ are posted within a couple days of your stay. Points earned through your credit card don't post until your credit card statement runs.

So if you pay for a hotel stay with your credit card, you are effectively getting 15 points per $. 5 from the credit card and 10 through Marriott Rewards.

If you get to platinum, you actually earn 15 points per $ for the hotel stay along. Put that on the MR credit card and you will end up with 20.
