Anyway to move the threads that go on and on and on and eventually go so far off topic that the thread title doesn’t even apply anymore? Every morning I come here looking for new daily information and insight only to have to wade through threads such as “Anyone playing wordle?”, “Let’s play connections”. ‘You’re being lied too about electric cars”, “Stay at home humor” and even the once useful one “A little stock market sense”. Seems like there should be a way to move these mega threads to their own section of the forum.

Hit the Ignore button on the right side just above the OP in any thread you don’t want to see.

I have all those threads, and more, on Ignore. I do the same with some of the prolific users who only start threads with links. You can also set the entire TUG Lounge forum up to be ignored so threads from there don’t show in your new posts list.

I’ve done that with annoying people, but didn’t realize I could for threads. I’m keeping the Wordle one though! Bucky, join the fun. 😄
I just cleaned up my page from the old informational threads in pink at the top of the Lounge. Thank you Roll!

I might have to ignore the wordle one I never have and never will wordle.

On a kind of similar topic though I do find it so weird with the bring a thread from 2013 or 2020 back from the dead with maybe tangentially related stuff. I kind of wish (given I was shouted down about how starting a new thread with a link to 3+ year old threads) there was an easy way to click on one of these "new posts" thread and actually go to the post from like this month or so rather than potentially going through pages of "ancient irrelevant" content to get to whatever might be relevant to me today. Not to belabor the point but I'm leery of really taking much stock in like "some MVC location circa 2014" being relevant - the location probably has been renovated or has really run down, the program and costs have completely changed etc... Even stuff from like 2020 - many renovations have happened and the programs have potentially changed A LOT (i.e. HGV Max was born, Wyndham added Bonus time, who knows what else).

yep, we have a 3rd party add on to the site that allows you to ignore threads and entire forums if you like!

the ignore button will be at the very top right of any post or subforum to select!

The Wordle thread is a must-read every day! Gotta keep up with all my puzzling friends. :D

Is it a must-read or a must-post? Even though I have that thread on Ignore, I look at it every now and then. It is just people posting their results with very little actual discussion. What I've learned from that thread and people posting Wordle results on Facebook is that no one really cares about how other people did at Wordle any given day.

How do you know they don’t care? FB I would understand, but here it is fun with a non-exclusive club.

We do care. We want to do well and we also want everyone else to do well. It isn’t a competition and we don’t argue about it, so if that’s your thing, it definitely isn’t for you. I really enjoy having my coffee, playing a few word games and then checking in with my friends every morning to see how they did. It’s a nice way to start my day.

We do care.
Perhaps people care. I would just have expected more interaction and discussion if people cared. That's all I'm saying. People can do what they do. I suppose that is why I decide to opt out of that thread.

All of the threads mentioned above are in the TUG lounge which, by definition, is for NON-timeshare topics. It couldn't be simpler: just stop visiting that forum.

It isn't about not visiting the forum. Many people use the "What's New" feature of Xenforo to look at new stuff. You have to go in and Ignore the TUG Lounge or ignore those individual threads to prevent them from showing up in "What's New".

And fortunately there's a way to ignore and make these offensive lounge threads invisible !

A simple no would have been better than the snark. If I didn’t want to visit the forum I obviously wouldn’t have posted there!

But “no” isn’t the correct answer to your question. You can avoid seeing those threads by using the Ignore button.

Thus why I also pointed out that Denise's reply wasn't correct either.

Didn’t mean to open a can of worms up folks. I appreciate pointing me to the “ignore” button but, my version of this software doesn’t have an “ignore ‘button and I cannot find it in the settings!

This is screen capture from my iphone using Safari to access TUG. There are three buttons above your meme in your original post and the middle one is Ignore. Do you not see anything similar to this?

OK. I can finally put this to bed. The reason I could not find the “Ignore” button was because one actually has to open the thread they don’t want to read to be able and ignore it in the future! Thanks for the feedback from almost all.

sorry I didnt notice this had gone off the rails. seems some folks just cant help themselves.

I am so happy for THIS thread. In all my years on TUG I hadn't noticed the "ignore" button.
Can't wait to use it!
I will no longer need to mentally ignore the Wordle thread.
