Hello,

Going to CA in April. We will visit Hollywood one day. We would like to do one of those movie star tours. Are there any we can do on our own? If not, what are some good tours to take?

Thanks.
Michelle

I used to work for the oldest and largest company, Starline Tours of Hollywood.

Don't book online, as they suggest on the site. Deal directly with the guys and gals working on Hollywood Blvd in front of the Chinese Theater or the Kodak. Most of them will be in blue shirts. Negotiate your ticket price. If it's a slow day and low season, you should be able to get a better rate.

As with all tour operations, a good tour often depends on a good tour guide. Most Starline drivers give a decent tour. Of course a few are great and others....well you know....not so great. See if Peter, Brian, Christopher or Teresa are working the day you go on the tour. They are good natured drivers who usually give a very good experience. Peter is the all star, so if you can get his tour, you will be very pleased.

If you have any questions PM me. I can give you more ideas on how to possibly do it on your own. But a professional tour may be better since you only have a day. Finding your way around can sometime be a pain in the neck.

My daughter and I did a day tour quite a few years ago and we had a really good time. It was a great way to see the "touristy" stuff in a day.

Can't remember what tour company we used but they picked us up at our hotel in Anaheim. For us, that was a real perk as we didn't have to make our way downtown.
