Mountain Valley presentation

Hi Everyone. I'm going to Mountain Valley this Friday and would like to know if anyone has been there recently and if so, did you go to a presentation. Do they offer 20k points? Was the presentation low key? Just trying to figure out if going to a presentation at this resort is worth my time. I have two free days with nothing to do, really -- so I might be open to a presentation.
 
Well it's almost worth it just to go, listen to their pitch, and then ask them how you sell your Destination Points Memberhship if you can't travel anymore etc., and watch their sales pitch go down the tubes as the others in the room come to understand the reality of it.

I would run this past The Golden Rule since there are others who are making a living involved.
 
What in the heck are you talking about? There are lots of posts from people about this very same subject. Go find someone else to pick on!

We were just there and there are no presentations offered. There is no sales staff, but the GM, Todd is very willing to answer any questions you may have. No presentations, so no points. Wine and cheese for an hour one evening and an owners meeting with very basic info on DC another evening. Small resort, but great location. They are finally getting snow, so you should have fun. Take an evening with your day pass and go to Keystone for night skiing.
 
Thanks for this information. I definately plan to ski at Keystone. The last two times I went to Colorado, I stayed in River Run Village at Keystone. Signed-up for a special kids dinner on Saturday night at the top of Keystone Mountain. I guess they will have fireworks around 6PM, too.

I'm glad you like Mountain Valley. The last two or three posts on trip advisor are not very flattering. Lots of people complaining about how dated the Marriott is and how small the rooms are and how they don't give enough soap or any lotion, etc... I'm not so concerned. I only have a studio but by looking at the pictures, the room looks just like a studio at any residence inn, and I think those rooms are very nice.

I had a studio at Grand Timber Lodge but I switched to the Marriott about a month and a half ago. Figured the pool complex at the Marriott is not as nice, but the location and most important the studio rooms are better at the Marriott. I can't wait.

I wouldn't put much reliability on Tripadvisor reviews for timeshares. People who rent timeshare accomadations expect hotel service and amenities. They don't understand that renting a condo isn't the same as renting a hotel room at a 5 star resort.

We've stayed in the one bedroom at MVL and enjoyed our stay. We have a few nights booked there again next June. It has a great location if you want to be close to Main St. and shopping. I believe (we don't ski) that it's considered a ski in/ski out resort with a lift very close by.
 
Jim, This is an "older" property that Marriott did not build. They converted hotel rooms, so the studios are "cozy", but sleep 4 with a full kitchen. We haven't stayed at the GTL, so don't know how to compare the pool area. MVL has a large heated outdoor pool with many outdoor jacuzzi's. If you have children, definitely check out the new game room too. They have popcorn at check-in. If you have a car, and haven't been to Vail, I would go there for a day of skiing. The terrain is unbelievable! It's huge. It's only about 45 minutes away. You may be able to get a parking pass to park at Marriott's Streamside for a day and take the free shuttle to Lion's Head. I would talk to Todd at MVL. He and the GM at Streamside work very well together. It's worth asking. Have a great time!
 
Forgot to tell you to take advantage of the FREE pics on the mountain. At the top of many lifts, there are photographers in bright green jackets that will take digital pics of you that you can download for 30 days. You must buy the pics if you want to print, but you can e-mail, put on facebook, etc. Pretty cool.... When we got home, we received an e-mail to purchase pics for MUCH less than the $19.95.
 
Forgot to mention that we've stayed at both GTL and MVL. While I haven't stayed in the studio at MVL, we had a two bedroom at GTL that had the studio LO. I think you'll be happy with the MVL studio over the GTL studio.

FWIW, I didn't think the pools at GTL were all that great. The hot tubs were nicer but the pools were smaller than the pool at MVL.
 
You guys, thanks so much for this great info on MVL. For sure, I will take advantage of the free pictures and I'll wait until I am home to buy any. What a neat suggestion. Unfortunately, I have to pass on Vail for this trip. I only bought a two day pass and I don't get a day at Vail included. I love Vail, my favorite ski resort by far. But, it will just be me and my six year old so we are going to do Breckinridge and Keystone. Keystone has a bunch of kid activities which I am sure he will love.

Doug, you are making me feel much better about MVL over GTL. Those hot tubs at GTL do look amazing but I am glad you told me the pools are smaller there. In 2008 I skied down to the MVL and looked at the resort, but I can't remember much, but I do remember thinking the pool was very large. I just hope it is also heated to something in the 80's at least. The studio at the GTL would have been fine, I am sure but it looked so cramped, not even a table to eat on, just a bench attached to the wall and two stools. While I have no doubt I would probably enjoy the amenities at GTL better than at MVL, I think the larger studio and bigger pool and being in town will make up for it. My six year old goes nuts in any game room. Can't wait for him to discover the one at MVL, and I know he will love the big pool.
