Going in June with the crew (me, DH, little girl, Dad and MIL). Since I've been looking at entertainment books for our upcoming St. Augustine trip, I thought about our Sedona trip. No entertainment books for the area but the Chamber offers a Sedona SuperPass ($10 if you buy there, $13 if mailed to you). It pays for itself, and a bit more, with the 10% off Pink Jeep Tours coupon. However, one other jeep tour offer a discount (15%) - The Red Rock Western Jeep Tour. How does this tour compare with Pink Jeep?

I have other questions but suddenly have to go! Thanks!

We stayed in Flagstaff 2 years ago. I cant help you with the jeep tours. When I was deciding which things to do and there are sooooo many options, I looked up the different resorts and noted which places people had gone to and if they liked them.

Because we were staying in Flagstaff instead of Sedona we did more north things than you might. We did go to Oak Creek Canyon and Slide Rock, Chapel, Walnut Canyon, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert and the Crater. Montazuma's well and Monument Valley.

Depending on how well your dad and mil can get around, those might be considerations. I wouldnt pass on Oak Creek Canyon or Slide Rock. I dont know if you are going to take the day trip to Grand Canyon, although its very easy to get around and not that long of a drive.

If you go to alot of National Parks, make sure you keep your receipts. It might be an advantage to jump to the annual pass.

We have done both tours. I think they are equally good. Which ever one you decide on it will be fun.

We are staying at the Grand Canyon for 3 days before heading to Sedona. We will go on the raft ride out of Page as see what is in that area as well... this is on the Saturday we check out of the Grand Canyon. It'll be a LONG day

My dad and I think my MIL have Golden Age Passes so that will take care of the national park fees. Yeah! We are definitely doing Slide Rock and a bunch of the others.

Here's my newest questions. Clothes. Can we get away with one set/layer of warmer clothes (how warm??) for cool nights at the Canyon and then just need warm weather clothes for Seodona? I am concerned about packing as we are flying from FL and will need luggage space for hiking boots, etc. Will Seodna in June be warm enough for shorts and t-shirts? Windbreaker at night?

This trip is next on the itinerary so I am gearing up fulltime for it! Can't wait!

GREAT Trip you have planned

You have a great trip planned. I think you probably can get away with layers of clothing this time of the year. But remember you are moving from elevations to elevations. Sedona is about 4,000 feet, Flagstaff about 7,000 feet. So even in Sedona if you go through the Canyons it will be cooler than in town.

What property are you staying at? I enjoyed the Sedona Summitt very much...great views at Sunset!!!

I exchanged into Arroyo Roble last year. The oldsters in the group like to get up at the crack of dawn and go for a walk... so staying so close to town gives them interesting places to check out while DH and I sleep in to the unheard of hour of 8am

Are long pants for the evenings really needed, do to it being cold? We can handle cool if we are warm on top, but cold is a different matter. Living in FL makes us wardrobe challenged for cold weather... not to mention packing space limitations.

Going in June, you should not need any heavy clothing -- June, July, August it is really beginning to heat up. We were in Las Vegas, NV one year in June and it was 105.

When we were in Sedona in September, only one night did we need a light jacket. I would think June should be similar.

There is a parking pass required for many of the back roads of Sedona,I think it's 15 dollars a week. If I recall correctly, its charged by the national parks or forest service.

Your mil's golden passport card replaces the pass, just put her card on the dash when you park.

My BIL has a Golden Age pass and he has a (crisp) photocopy of it that he leaves on his dashboard, not the card itself.

In Sedona you can go to the visitors centre downtown and show your Golden Age pass to get a weekly pass for the back roads.

WOW. Had no idea about this back roads pass thing! Thanks derb and eal!! We'll do that asap when we get there... the visitor center is open on Sundays?

I am glad to hear that warmer clothes won't needed for Sedona. I think I'll take one pair of long pants (I think I only have one pair anway :D ) and my windbreaker/rain jacket. Same for little girl. Is the Grand Canyon chillier at night though? I am so weather ignorant  Living in paradise does that after awhile.

Is there a better day to go to Slide Rock Park? Less crowded?

Slide Rock will be busy in June. Go in the am for less crowds. Weather in June is very nice, pretty warm days & pleasant temps at night. Grand Canyon will be a bit cooler. No need for heavy clothes at either location. I don't remember if the parks office is open on Sunday but I would bet it is during the summer. There are 2 different passes needed in the region. One is the Federal parks so your Golden Age gets you in free. The other is a Red Rock Park/ Regional kind of thing and requires a pass. Buy the one for a week and then you can go everywhere. It is located in the shopping area right next to Arroyo Roble.

Many spots don't require anything to enjoy the view! Even if you are not shoppers, go to Tlaquepaque & stroll around. Very fun.

Take time to go to Jerome. It's a quick jaunt and a fun old mining town to explore. Have lunch there. On the way back take a bit of time to see the historic old part of Cottonwood & stop at the Tuzagoot Indian ruins. Take a morning and drive to Montezuma Indian Ruins and Well. Go out to Enchantment Resort to see how the well-heeled spend their vacations and if you have any extra $$ have lunch. The Red Rock Loop off highway 89 is well worth a drive. Be sure to go up to the airport for a breathtaking sunset view (parking requires either the regional or the NPS pass) and also take a drive up to the Chapel. The view is amazing. If this is your first visit to Sedona, you are in for a treat. The views are undescribable. Can you tell I love Sedona?

Hi,
Went last June (end of ) to Sedona. Never wore much besides shorts and a skirt at night. Brought one little lightweight sweater. DIdn't even need it in Flagstaff. Would also recommend going to Prescott and Jerome-loved them. Loved the whole area. Lots to do. YOur kids might like the wildlife park -can't remember exactly where-about 30 minutes from Sedona. You get to feed giraffes etc. Really fun.
