We have been hoping for a moose spotting on our New England trip. (See other thread)

This morning my sister was sitting out on the screened in porch in the Kestrel's at Smuggler's Notch resort and she saw a moose and her calf walking across the road and into our back yard!!!!!!!

YEAH!!!!

We had heard if sightings between here and Stowe, but never expected to see one from the condo.

We came in on an RCI exchange and swapped it for a red studio. Great exchange for a three bedroom. Yup, I know it is off season.....but, it has been wonderful up here in May. Lucky us, we have loved it here. We go back to Tennesee tomorrow.

Just the other day the lead story on our local news (CT) was a moose struck by a car in a very residential area. The moose had to be put down, unfortunately, but the driver of the car had to be cut out, there was so much damage and I believe had some fairly serious injuries. Use caution if you see one near the road--I've read it's like hitting a big boulder.

And it was the 4th one hit in the state (CT) this year. The Moose population is growing in numbers and dispersement.

Moose are rather plentiful in Vermont. The best to see them are in the early mornings.

However, you do not want to have a car accident with one. It can very dangerous. Typically, the front of the car sweep the moose off its feet and the body will come in through the windshield. This is very often fatal. So be careful on the mountain roads at night or when visibility is bad.
