I'm taking my mom back to Hawaii. We had such a great time on the big island that we're doing it again as a celebration for her 80th birthday, this time with my sister and niece as a true girls trip. And then we will do a week at Maui, sis and niece may not be able to join for that part. Anyway, I'm welcoming suggestions for things my mom might enjoy and also suggestions for things my little niece may like. She will be 9 years old by then. We will be staying at Hono Koa Vacation Club in Maui and Kohala Suites on the Big Island.

We took my wife's parents to Hawaii. What they liked the most was driving around site seeing. My mother in law really enjoyed driving the Hana Hwy and stopping at the Garden of Eden.

How mobile is your Mom? There are Botanical Gardens on both Islands. On Hawaii there is the Place of Refuge (try to be there when the Park Ranger gives a talk about the location), Lapakahi State Historical Park (Historical Hawaiian Fishing Village), Volcano National Park, Tours at the Greenwell Coffee Farm, Kona Coffee Living History Farm, etc. There is a trail in the Waikoloa Resort Area that has a lot of Petroglyphs.

Our friend's 85 yr. old mother enjoyed the Maui Tropical Plantation. In addition to exploring the gardens on your own, there are tram tours which last about 90 minutes and take you through areas that are only seen via the tram. The Plantation also has a nice cafe, a country market, and an artists' studio.
