We will be going first time to ski the Rockies. Should we get 4 or 5 day tickets? For comparison, how much is one day or half day if we wanted to add it to advance purchase later? Thanks.

Doesn't that depend on whether you want to ski 4 or 5 days? :) I think the best source for your questions would be to call Vail Resorts. Half days are typically not that big of a discount, and I doubt they give you much of a discount when you add a day on site. The whole point of offering advance purchase discounts is to get you to commit in advance. Once you are standing in the ticket line, they know you likely to pay full price.

Single day lift tickets to Vail around that time of year (prime ski season) will be about $100, maybe even $110. Half day doesn't mean half price. I would think about $80 would be the "half day" ticket price. May as well pay for a full day ticket.

If you're going to ski 5 days you should consider buying a pass, which pays for itself in 4 days. But you need to buy the pass in the next couple weeks because they stop selling them after a certain point. Not sure if you are here in CO or not.
