MLB HITS OPENING DAY HOME RUN

I pleased with the new rules. The shift ban and the pitch clock make for a much more interesting game. Batting averages (especially for left handers) should go up.

I also liked all the new baseball rules, they will definitely speed up the game play.

I watched the Cardinals(9) vs BlueJays(10) - not a pitchers duel / but lots of action

Of the new rules, my favorite is not being able to make more than 2 pickoff attempts. If a third pickoff attempt is made, the runner automatically advances one base if the pickoff attempt is not successful.

As long as someone is not trying to circumvent the rules and not use it to their advantage they are going to be thoughtful about it,” Showalter said.

I agree with Showalter and hope he is correct

These rule changes have made games on average 20 minutes shorter. Twenty minutes. *sigh* I hope it was worth it, MLB. *shakes fist at sky* *tells MLB to get off her lawn*

Also, why do we still have two leagues? If everyone is going to play everyone else, and the AL has already infected the NL with the abomination that is the designated hitter, what is the point, again?

Also, MLB--you can have short games, or you can have exciting, run-filled games, but you can't have both. Ask Greg Maddux. That's not how the game works, when the defense has the ball.

If I wanted to watch NBA games, I have the option to do that. Trying to turn MLB games into NBA games is just...something, something.

*sigh*
*shakes fist again*

Here's a strange baseball stat for you. In his first appearance of 2018, Zach Duke pitched one inning for the Twins. He allowed two runs, but got 4 strikeouts. One of the batters swung at a wild pitch and stole first base. As a result, Duke started the year with an ERA of 18.0 and Strikeouts per 9 IP of 36.0. o_O

We went to an Astros game on opening weekend. The pitch clock was very noticeable (in a good way, imo). I enjoy baseball, but realistically watching a pitcher shake off 3 signs in a row or have a 5 minute visit with manager/catcher on the mound is not very exciting.
