Missing Driver's License in Mexico

Hello Tuggers,
Two more days in Mexico and I have lost my US driver's license. I don't need the DL to return and I have already ordered a replacement. My state does not change the DL number unless you can show that you are a victim of identity theft. I believe the do change the second string of very long numbers ( I have to hunt down an old ID to verify) but only very very few entities ever ask for that second number.
My question is: Any need to report it here in Mexico to the police?

I wouldn't. I don't think there is any danger of ID theft due to its missing, just as ask your state to issue you a new DL #.

They will issue a new DL but with the same number. The number will only change if you show that you are a victim of identity theft, not just a lost ID.

I am not sure I would want to retain the same Drivers License Number. To avoid "potential" identity theft I think I would be happy to pay to obtain a new License Number.

Sometimes you will get lucky and find it. Supposedly saying a prayer to Saint Anthony helps. I heard it said " Tony Tony come around, somethings lost and can't be found". I think it works for Catholics anyway.

Other than that doing what you did seems right to me.

Unfortunately, paying for a new number isn't exactly an option. Any requests to change the number requires proof of identity theft. I know, seems kinda strange to wait for the problem to happen but that is how the Texas law is written.
