[ merged ] The true picture: Has Sweden emerged as paragon or pariah in the corona sweepstakes?

Brett, but you still posted the "Swedish Model" screen snip for a third time. Should we be concerned?

get a clue, its the BBS equivalent of closing your eyes, sticking fingers in your ears and saying lalalalala when someone annoying is talking.

Common sense should come into play at some point in time. When has any pandemic closed churches and kept people from gathering and made us wear face masks? This has gotten out of hand. It's an illness. What happens the next illness? This is why voluntary is better than mandatory. I will protect those who are older and those who are vulnerable. I want to be Sweden.

Brett, this is the 5th time you have posted this snippet about the Swedish Model.

I think there is something about the "Swedish Model" for this thread ..... something about Sweden and their health care system
and something about their federal government leaders ....

And I keep seeing on _____________ oops ... starting to get political ! ;)

9/6 update - OFF time out. Let's play nice.

9/5 After multiple reports, this tiresome thread is on a time out.

"After an initial surge, Sweden now has one of the lowest coronavirus death rates in Europe. CNN's Max Foster looks at the country's response to the coronavirus pandemic. "

@ Brett

Your post is 100% political (do you know the rules?). The Washington Post forgets to mention important facts and makes statements based on articles that have been challenged (and debunked I would argue).

1) The Washington DC deaths/1 million are 50% higher than Sweden. The article does not mention that.
2) The deaths/ 1 million are higher in the US than in Sweden. The article does not mention that.
3) The unemployment rate ballooned in the US while in Sweden only went up by 2%. The article does not mention that.
4) There are plenty of articles that talk about Sweden's economy doing better than the rest of Europe and the world.
5) People's happiness should count for something, right? I cannot see how being locked down for weeks (months if it was up to the WP) can improve the quality of life.
6) The largest contributors to the death count in the US are generally the states with the strictest measures.

7) 26 countries and states have (a lot) more deaths/1 million people despite locking down.

8) Sweden registered just 3 deaths in the last week. I would like you and the WP to explain that, if you think they did not reach herd immunity. As I pointed out before, Sweden's number of deaths/day has been very close to zero since July 20th.

In case you did not notice, the thread is not about me (Dr. Atlas ;))

Don't you know the rules or you do not care? This is another political post, IMO a very transparent attempt to get the thread on time out again.

Danny, this seems to be the style he chooses. It's indeed a never ending cycle. Post... Report... Post... Report... Post... Report..., etc.

What he does not seem to realize is that when he does that he is bumping the thread to the top of the "what's new" section and more people are going to click on it. Those who read it will have enough facts to make up their own mind. This strategy is actually working against his clear desire to censure the topic. @Brett Keep it up buddy!

Avoid posting about politics, religion, or contentious social issues ? :ponder:

Because someone keeps creating multiple Sweden threads, I opened this thread to merge it with today's thread. I'm going to be watching it very carefully, and if it goes off the rails it will be closed quickly.

Perhaps preventing the one person who keeps on bringing up political references and posts in this thread could be an alternative? The rest of the posts have been very informative and not against TUG's posting rules, IMO.

Hoodlums on both sides - when you post just to stir the pot, you make more work for the Mods.

Can you give an example of a post that you consider is inappropriate and just "stirs the pot" in this thread? I've been scanning and haven't seen really anything rude or offensive, except the blatantly political posts and the posts complaining about the blatantly political posts. I think a little clarification would be helpful here for all.

Nope - I have no interest in this thread, and I have no intention of combing through it looking for examples which you will later try to use against me.

You sure do make a lot of assumptions. Since you won't answer my question, will any other moderator do so, in order to give some guidance here?

Sounds as though she's invoking her Miranda rights. ;)
