Sterlings post reminded me that I meant to post about the luau at the Med. Gormet on Kauai. It is very small (limitied to 70 people), the food is buffet but is very good for this type of event.

The dancers are a family and the father is both musician and fire dancer. My only complaint is that the stage that the dancers are on is very small and it gets pretty crowded. It would be better to have the entertainment outside.

Overall very enjoyable and only $69 pp

We enjoyed it. It also includes 2 free drinks (beer, wine, mai tai). We took DD and her new fiance (he proposed on Kee beach).

The musicians performed all evening and I thought they were very good. The lead singer (also dad to the dancers) did the fire dance which was very up close and personal in such a small space.

Not a big production but I do think you will enjoy it sterling....let me know what you think

Congratulations on the expansion of your family. Sons-in-law are pretty terrific. I adore mine. :D

Never heard of this luau. Native Hawaiians were not fire dancers, so other luaus kind of diss the ones that have fire dances.

We love Smith's and may go this time again, but I am somewhat over luaus. The shows are good, but the food is not all that wonderful. I love to learn about the Hawaiian culture at luaus.

Just so you all know...the luau at Mediterranean Gourmet is held only on Tuesday evenings...and the restaurant is closed on Tuesday evenings for this event. This luau was the original "local" one held at Tahiti Nui in Hanalei. When Auntie died, Tahiti Nui ended the luau and it was later resurrected at Hanalei Colony Resort and held at the Mediterranean Gourmet. It is probably the "most" local luau on the island.
