We'll be in Maz in January. We arrive fairly late on a Saturday after a full travel day. I arranged for shuttle to the resort- not taxi- where we could stop at the Mega for groceries. We are way out at P.B. Emerald Bay, so it's a shuttle to PB Maz then bus, taxi or pulmonia to/from the store.

My question is: What are the liquor sales hours? Is booze sold on Sunday? If I don't need to hustle there on Sat. eve, a few margaritas on the patio would be easier than making a store run.

Also, does P.B E.B. have an on-site c-store? This will be our first stay way out here, and figure on it being a relaxing stay-at-the-resort kind of week before we decamp to more familiar digs.

Thanks, as always.

Last year, we arrived in PV around 10 PM and were able to buy stuff at the OXXO store. When we went to the Rhythms of the Night show later in the week, we wanted to stop to pick up some beer on our way back to the resort, found that liquor stores closed sometime around midnight. I would assume that is the same in Mazatlan.

PBEB does have an on-site store - not open 24/7 though. It has a deli, some food items, pop, beer, wine, tequila, milk, etc.

Not far from PBEB (not walking distance) is a small grocery across from Mayan Palace/Sea Garden (a little north of these) that has quite a few things. We buy beer, milk, cereal, bread, etc. there.

There is also a new convenience store at the new Pemex station near the round-about not far from PBEB from the road from the Golden Zone.

From the airport, there is a Soriana on the right side of the road before where the taxi will turn to onto the highway north towards HWY 15. That is a good place to buy essentials.

If you do not stop there and the driver takes the divided highway to the turn off to the Playas, you will need to ask him to take you to one of the stores that I mentioned above.

We own a week at PBEB that we use for over-flow when we are at the La Jolla next door. We drive to Mazatlan from Phoenix, so getting to the Mega is not a problem for us. Mega is our favorite grocery there. PBEB is a nice resort. There are some good local restaurants on Cerritos Beach - Bruha and Roy's are both good. The restaurant at the Cerritos Beach Resort is pretty good too - good prices.

Thanks Phyllis,
I kind of know the area, as well as the Zona Dorado. I was a little curious about the booze hours because last time we were at the Mega, it was a late afternoon and the booze/beer aisle was closed off. To be honest, I don't know what day of the week it was. We've only just started allowing liquor sales here on Sundays a year or so ago, so I wanted to be sure I could get *all* the necessary supplies on one grocery run.

Also good to know there are other eateries out Cerritos way within walking distance. The distance away from the Golden Zone is one thing that has made us reluctant to exchange into Emerald Bay. But we had a week at another favorite resort booked and wanted to add another to capitalize on the airfare we'd be spending anyway, and PBEB was available.

They have free shuttles (big tour bus) to the other Pueblo Bonito near El Cid that run hourly. There are many restaurants in that area. Our son and daughter-in-law used it a couple of times in June.

We used it a lot and it always ran on time!

We have already planned on using the PB shuttle to catch the bus into town and to the general Zona Dorado area. While we haven't actually stayed at PB Maz, we have exchanged into several TSs within a 2-3 block radius.

Seems to me that it leaves EB on the hour and PB Maz on the half or vice-versa. That will reduce the bite of taxis and pulmonias.

Anybody who thinks it's easy to be a cheapskate isn't one. :)

BTW we found the food at Emerald Bay to be excellent. Their Italian night was especially good.

Speaking of ... if you haven't been to La Cocina de Ana, do yourself a favor and check it out. They open at noon for lunch only, and serve cafeteria style. You pay (very little) by the kilo. Ask for beverages & tortillas, they're behind the counter. I put the menu, which rotates depending on the day of the week, up on TripAdvisor. La Cocina de Ana is a little south of the Dairy Queen, and one block west. You can get there easily from the main drag if you know which breezeway to walk down :)
