May I blame the DC? No availability for Thanksgiving week

All of this leap-year, check-in calendar stuff that I read here always confuses me. People make it so complicated.

Just check the FIRST check-in day for the week you want (ie. Nov 16, 2012) then try to reserve at 9am Eastern on that date the year before (ie. Nov 16, 2011) for any of that week's checkin days.

Got thanksgiving at 1 second past 6am PST this am.

That's exactly what I thought but NOTHING popped up for almost an entire hour of hitting refresh! So after reading other posts here on TUG, I learned that standard rule DOES NOT apply to all properties.:annoyed: Because my property has a Thursday check in day they released all the days (Nov 16, 17, 18, 19, 2012) on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2011. So going in at 5:59am PST on Nov. 16th did me NO good because all the days were already released and taken the day before. :wall:

So now I know better and in the future will check my properties specific calendar of when they release the check in days as the 1 year rule does not apply to all.

You live and learn!

Your problem is that next year the Thursday check-in date is November 15th, not Nov. 16th, because of the leap year. Thus, according to the 1 year rule, the first day would have been Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, to check in for the weekend beginning Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012.

Davidvel, just like you said, you got your reservation because you called 12 months in advance of the first available check-in day of that week for your resort, Shadow Ridge, which has Fri-Sat-Sun check-in days. I agree that it gets needlessly confusing when you start thinking of the call-in day as a certain day of the week, but the difference between you and Fern is that her (his?) resort has Thursday check-in days as well. So the dates in your post don't work for her.

Fern, the standard rule DOES apply in your case - the first check-in day of that week at DSVI is Thu, 11/15/12, and reservations for any of the check-ins that week could be made 12 months in advance, 11/15/11.

My brain could never wrap around the "What Day Do I Call?" question so I used to post it on TUG and let the experts here tell me. It's great that Marriott made this link available; it simplifies the whole thing without all the words!

I recently closed on my DSVII and was worried about being able to book a Thanksgiving week if escrow was not completed by the reservation date so had asked the closing company to book if if it was not. Escrow was completed in time and my Marriott account set up about two weeks ago and the closing company's reservations person was good enough to let me know that it was Tuesday the 15th this year as she had it on her ticker file in case it was not completed in time. Logged on just before 6:00 (on the west coast) refreshed a few times and was able to get my preferred Saturday checkin date. My email confirmation had the time as 6:00 on it so it paid to be sitting at the computer ready and waiting (which was not that easy seeing it was 6:00 am!).

I know the Starwood people say that the time stamp on a reservation makes a big difference when it comes to making requests, but have never heard the same thing about Marriotts. Is that why you're saying it "pays" to have the 6AM time showing on your email?

I was just saying that it paid off to be sitting there to get the actual checkin day I wanted since someone else said that by the time they logged in, Friday check ins were already gone.....that is all. The actual time the reservation was made does not make a difference as far as I know.

Ah, got it. Thanks. For a minute there I thought maybe some Marriott resorts were using a similar time-stamp request priority thing like what Starwood uses.
