This (quoted below) was posted by an owner on the resorts Facebook page. I do know they did get hit hard by the hurricanes as our DS (who is in the large loss commercial restoration business) looked at it.
"I JUST FOUND OUT TODAY, WE OWNERS ARE BEING CHARGED A SPECIAL ASSESSMENT OF OVER $700, FOR MISTAKES MADE BY THE BOARD WHEN THEY SELECTED A GC TO PERFORM REPAIRS, & THEN PAID THEM OVER $3M UPFRONT??? NOW BECAUSE OF THAT IGNORANT DECISION, WE ARE LEFT TO COVER THEIR LOSSES...AS A LONG TERM OWNER, I HAVE LOST FAITH IN THE BOARD & THE CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP...I DON'T MAKE A HABIT OF POSTING FORMAL COMPLAINTS, BUT I FEEL THAT THEIR ACTIONS DESERVE SOME FORM OF NEGATIVE RESPONSE BY THE OWNERS!!! HOW MUCH MORE CAN WE TOLERATE, BEFORE ABANDONING SHIP?"
We have been warned that our resort in St Augustine will likely have a special assessment added to our maintenance bill this year as well. I think so many of the resorts down the coast are so old and have been hit by hurricanes so many times they are all in need of major repair or renovations. When our DS was working on a popular timeshare in Fort Lauderdale and a well known major hotel in Miami a couple of years ago their maintenance people had been doing 'Band-Aid' fixes for years. The hotel maintenance staff were painting over mould in guest rooms/suites on the top floor almost weekly instead of fixing the fixing the cause.
