I am trying to figure out which building to request when I go to Maui Ocean Club in Sept. I know I can't request towers because I was not confirmed to the towers in a trade. And I know there are two other buildings, Molokai and Maui. Any recommendations for me between these two?

What view did you book? Or was it an II trade? If II, do you know what the unit code is for the exchange? That may make a difference here.

I was in a Molokai room, overlooking the outdoor pools. Also side view of ocean and opposite side had mountainous view. It was gorgeous.

We own and always request the Molokai section. They access to Whaler's Village is faster. The walk to the main garage is farther away. We love the views even with oceanview. What view did you get?

Interval trade code HOBOV

I don’t know the code is TOBOV. How do you find out what the different codes mean?

lol. The first letter (of a five letter code) has to do with the source of the deposit.

Made a mistake my code HOBOV

Don’t see any linked thread

Click the blue box Marriott II u it codes

and the answer is it’s a dedicated 1BR ocean view unit (OBOV)
"H" means it was a house/bulk deposit. It "should" get oceanview but our experience is house (vs. owner) deposits get the worst view within the category.

I exchanged thru interval and made a mistake, I didn't realize the code at Maui ocean club unit was
MMO with limited kitchen. I wanted MM1 which is one of the towers, not the older buildings. I am sick about this because it is our 50th anniversary and now we will have a limited kitchen, small refrigerator and no stove top just a microwave. Is there anything I can do to see if I can get into one of the towers. We're going the end of Sept until Oct 6. Would it help at all to call ocean club and plead my case and see if I can get switched?

There is a Sept 28th checkin in MM1 new towers 1BR, so you could retrade into that. You would need to pay another exchange fee (if applicable). Outside of that, unless you can find something sitting available to retrade into through Interval International, you don't have many other options. They can't just switch you. They can only confirm you into what is available on deposit. That said, while the older secton doesn't have full kitchens, they are still very nice. There are other drawbacks, but it is still Hawaii.

Do all retrades require another exchange fee?

Do all retrades require another exchange fee?
Yes, unless you added Eplus to your initial exchange or if you own an enrolled Marriott week and are retrading into a Marriott or Vistana resort.

Is it worth a try to contact resort directly to see if there might be a way to to be assigned one of the towers instead of the limited kitchen rooms?

No it’s really not. They can’t change you from MMO to MM1.

If you want MM1 follow dioxide45’s advice and try to retrade.
Go under history or my unit and click retrade next to your confirmed Maui trade.
Search the available inventory frequently and if you find what you want confirm it and pay the fee.

If a unit at MM1 is what you want, the extra $164 or $229 retrade fee won't matter. Make the retrade and enjoy your trip.
I just checked MM1 and your date is not currently out there. In the coming weeks, it is likely that there will be another deposit (or a cancel/retrade); you must search online as often as possible.
Go to History > Exchanges
Find your confirmation
Start Retrade
and search.
Caveat: you may get a mountain view at MM1.

We were at MMO in February. We needed a specific check-in date, and thankfully MMO came through. The lanai is much nicer than the one at MM1. The refrigerator is 3/4 size (not the dorm size refrigerator that is in the studio). It was a little hard to find a place for the gallon of milk, but we managed. There are ice machines on each floor, not far from elevators. With a small electric skillet, one can make eggs in the morning or warm leftovers.
We did use the community kitchen to make rice on the induction stove top. (The rice makers were all in use the week we were there.). And the laundry has lots and lots of washers/dryers, so we never had a wait.

MMO is undergoing renovations to add a 2 burner stove-top to the kitchens. Call to ask if any of the units have been completed. I agree with @lockewong that the ocean view side of Molokai Tower is very nice.

I wouldn't be sick about it because you'll probably have a nice view, and your unit has 2 bathrooms (which is always a plus). I recall that the refrigerator was fairly big, although not full sized. It'll say on your confirmation. There is a community kitchen that you can use in addition to the outdoor BBQ grills. Also there is a very nice laundry facility that is free - - no quarters. I've stayed in a 2 BR MMO and, while I wanted MM1, my wife and I still had a great time. And my wife is fussy.

Also, my wife's idea of a great vacation is one where she doesn't have to cook and do dishes.

BTW, for our 50th wedding anniversary, I had booked a 2 BR unit at Marriott Frenchman's Cove (St. Thomas). We were going to spend a week prior to St. Thomas driving from D.C. down to the keys. Then Covid hit. We had to cancel. I had booked 1st class and the airlines gave me a year to use the substitute tickets. So that was a total loss. But I rationalized it: Covid was an "existential threat" and the cancellations were just a big annoyance.

So, take a breath and enjoy the beautiful resort, the likely beautiful views, all of the great restaurants in the Kaanapali area, your ability to use the microwave to heat up leftovers or to use the shared kitchen, and enjoy the luxury of two bathrooms. Life is good. ;) :cheer:

Anyone been to MMO recently as they have started construction? I read that some of the views are now obstructed.

Yes, an update on the electrical system renewal as well as individual unit refurbs both scheduled to be ongoing now would be very welcome.

Anyone been to a GM update recently?
Thanks

Tonight I looked in my email "Junk" folder and found an owner update newsletter !!
Why it ended up there I don't know.
Below is it in pdf.
