This is my first post to this wonderful, informative site. I hope someone can answer this question. We own at MOC and will be arriving in the beginning of June. We have a 2bd OV that we are splitting in order to stay 2 weeks. Traditionally we like to stay in the Molakai Tower. Has anyone stayed there recently? What shape is it in? I can't remember the last time they spruced it up. 2 years ago it looked better than 4 years ago(we own EOY). I'm worried it's going to need some TLC and maybe we should try the Lanai Tower this run. Can't find the info they send us as to what they've done recently. I know the pool is being refurbished, we are crossing all our fingers and toes in hopes they will be done when we get there.

I'm hearing crickets;) Lots of views, no posts however. Oh well, I guess I ought to call the resort. If anyone's been there recently though, how's it going with pool construction/painting et all?

I read on the Vacation Club web page that the pool will be closed from April 20 to June 15 at the MOC. I hope that your stay is after that date.

I don't know what the units look like in the main building or towers but I hope not as bad as what one person posted here. :( I can hardly believe it.

I would call the front desk and ask what section was refurbished last.

We were in the Lanai tower at the beginning of April, and everything was fine.
That link from iconnections has nothing in common withour recent experience.
We love going to Maui, and are glad to have it.

We stayed in the Molokai tower in the fall of 2006 and were in a newly re-furbished unit and were the first people to stay there and it was very nice. We just got back from a weeks stay in April 2009 and were in the Lanai tower. Our unit was clean and the only things that really needed replacing was the coffee table (looked a little tattered) and the shower rod and curtain liner in the master bathroom. The unit had flat panel TV's in both the bedroom (32") and the living room (40" - 42"). My son was in hog heaven with that TV! As always for us the staff was great as well. We had such a good time I am already planning on going back in March 2010. DH and I discussed going in the fall of 2010 but it is jut too far away so March 2010 is in the planning stages:banana:

I also believe that the units are in good condition as Marriott has their name on the resort but you can't please everyone and certainly not this person.

There would have been many complaints if there were really bugs crawling on the walls in other units too. The person hasn't posted her pictures yet and I doubt if she will.

However, some people are very picky and will always find something wrong to complain about. For us, view is much more important than a "perfect" condo so long it is clean and comfortable.

Just returned from Marriott Maui Ocean Club. Pool was closed and noisy during the day. Stayed in a one bedroom in the original building so we didn't have a full kitchen as we had anticipated. Didn't matter. Had a great time and learned to plan around cooking in the microwave when we didn't go out to eat. Next time we will ask more questions, but had a great time.

The problem with owning a 2 BDRM OV and splitting is that the resort gives the high floors to those that do not split their unit, so when you split you end up being on lower floors. That may be fine with you, but we like high floors.

And to compound the problem there are only so many 2BDRM OV units so if most don't split you do get stuck. We did this in 2007 and ended up on the 2nd floor in the Molokai with the 1BDRM, and then the studio in the Maui wing, which is the section between the 2 towers. It was still a great trip, but we do like a good view, and while both of these had a view of the ocean, it was more obstructed than we would have liked.

When we go in 2010, we're only using the 1BDRM section and renting the studio. I'm not planning on offically splitting, so my renter will be right next to me, but we're really hoping that will allow us to get a high floor.

We stayed in the Moloka'i Tower last June and it was fine. It was refurbished a year or so earlier. I've been an EY owner since the project opened and while I have had things wrong, I have always had prompt and satisfactory responses.

And like others, I am really skeptical of the unusually negative post referenced. I do not know of anything Marriott rents for $1,000/night at MOC. My 1 bed/2 bath OF in the original section rents for $350-$400/night through Marriott and my 2 bed/ 2 bath OF in the Lahaina/Napili Towers rent for $600/$650/night through Marriott. And those are rack rates, I think.

I expect you to be fine.

I read through that post and still no pictures. The way she came up with $1,000 a night is very misleading. She counted her purchase price of $14,000 plus maintenance fees so she is actually an owner.

My assupmtion is that she is not happy with her decision to purchase and now is trying to take it out on Marriott by slamming the Maui Marriott property, just my guess.

Thanks for the responses. I called to make my requests and they were very nice and helpful. FYI, they said the pool refurbishment and building painting is coming along faster than they thought and things were running smoothly. We are keeping our fingers crossed that during the 2 weeks we are there that it will be open or at least at one point it will open while we are there. We are just so excited to be going back to Maui I doubt much can disappoint. Aloha!!!!!
