Maui Ocean Club, sales office activity

One of my coworkers just came back from Maui Ocean club. He said the place was pretty full, given how many people were in the pools and how many lights were on in the units you can see from the pool area, just after dark. He also noted parking wasn't too crowded (and free for owners ;)). He noted that the sales office was empty the 5-6 times he walked by during his stay. There were a handful of employees and only observed a single customer in a discussion that looked like a sales pitch.

The resort is always full. The more interesting observation is the lack of activity at the sales office.

Don't they usually take you to a back office, out of sight, when they actually do the presentation? If I recall the office there, isn't there a welcome center in the main lobby? Surely they don't just have people sit in there when they are giving them the presentation?

I was there for 2 weeks last month and they had the side walk schedulers where they normally do asking everyone if they wanted to do a presentation so that was business as usual. They also have this 1500 Bonvoy points offer to pick up your VIP card and I assume they asked at that point as well so it seemed like they were still trying to entice people but I didn't notice one way or another if the sales office was empty or not. I didn't have any interest until I saw a really nice black Marriott Maui Ocean Club hat they were offering for a presentation incentive so that got me interested until I heard those hats were for non-Marriott owners only who agreed to do the tour which i thought was very strange and I'm sure angered some owners when they heard that. I didn't even bother to talk to the guy but my son did and he convinced the guy to give him a hat if i did the presentation but by then it was late in our trip and I didn't want to waste the time.

We are here on an Encore package that allowed us to score Thanksgiving week which I thought was just short of a miracle. We attended our obligatory presentation that comes with the Encore. 39 minutes with sales and then 15 minutes with the "survey guy". Bought another Encore but we can't use it for Maui. I think we'll do the Big Island. No BS from the sales guy. The only question I really had going in was whether I would be able to enroll the Lahaina Villas Unit we bought last year (on Ebay hours after the sales presentation here at MOC). He said they aren't currently running any deals where a points purchase comes with enrollment and that they aren't doing hybrid packages currently. Points are 14.54 with a 15% discount at 3000 pts.

All in all a pleasant hour with another Encore we can use next winter to try out Waikoloa.

We were there in October and went through a presentation. The initial greeting/meeting with the sales rep took place at one of the tables that can be seen from outside. That was relatively short and then we moved to her office, which was inside. Perhaps they kept going by when the sales reps and guests were inside in an office.

Best regards.

I was told today ay my sales presentation that Marriott is limiting hybrid packages in favor of selling trust points. I guess your comments confirm my sales guy was telling me the truth.

They usually do hybrids and take resales when they do those specials during summer. I would wait to see what happens then before giving up.
