Have a trade for next week in a 1 bedroom. Was wondering exactly what appliances are in the kitchen area- how big the fridge is? Are there barbecues on site? How close to the nearest market? Any good restaurants on site or nearby walking distance?
Any other info appreciated.

Fridge is under the counter type. Appliances include microwave, drip coffee maker, toaster and blender. The most reasonable grocery store we have found and about 2 or 3 miles north of the resort is Star Market. Turn left on to Lower Hono'opilani road at Honokowai, it's just on the right.

Make sure to visit the restaurant Aloha Mixed Plate. It was in the Los Angeles Times Travel section as a local favorite and it was extremely good. Very affordable (most plates under $10) and very delicious. It's in Lahina next to the luau. It's also casual but on the sand.

There are bbq's on site. The closest grocery store is safeway which you will pass on your way to MOC (4-5 minutes max). We actually like the food (I know others don't) at the little beach front pantry at MOC. We did not like the main onsite restaurant.

A short walk down the beach front path is our favorite restaurant, Leilanis. Great fish and steaks at a decent price and right on the water. You can also eat at Hula Grill there too. The other primary restaurant at Whalers Village doesn't get good reviews.

In Lahaina you have anything you could want to try. I 2nd Aloha Mixed Plate. In addition, you need to try Maui Tacos and we like Penne Pasta. All are on the cheap side for Maui.

We managed fine in the mini-kitchen for a week, even though we have commented frequently that they should have a 2-burner stove. We didn't eat any dinners out. We used the grill a lot, and I also successfully cooked spaghetti a couple of times in the microwave by using the huge pyrex measuring cup (boil the water first, then keep cooking on high a few minutes at a time until it is done). It takes a while to boil the water, but it was vacation and I had time! We also grilled hamburgers to add to jarred spagetti sauce. Bought bagged salad mixes. Microwaved a couple of those rice or noodle mixes to go with grilled meats.

We had fridge space for a gallon of milk, beer, and small juice bottles, and a few food items at a time (the Safeway was close enough that we stopped every day on our way back to buy meat, salad, etc.). One lesson learned - if you fill up the small fridge with a bunch of warm beers, it will take a couple of days for them to get really cold...I suggest filling up the sink (or a collapsible cooler, if you take one) with ice and pre-chilling the warm drinks. There is a very small freezer - big enough for a large frozen dinner or a few small ones, but not big enough for something like ice cream.
