It is very sad that I have been seeing segments on tv of the immediate crisis of hunger for families and massive lines at food banks.

Decided to check on my township and the major food bank is already having three times the demand this week.

I am fortunate, as many of you are, to be able to have the money to get food while others are not.

Just a few minutes ago I gave a donation to my local food bank. I hope to do it weekly.

I ask each of you, that can afford to, to consider doing the same.

It will still be some time before government checks are received. Meanwhile our generosity can help those who need it now.

Thanks Panina for the reminder. I dropped a check in the mail to the homeless shelter down the street. There's an immigrant housing apartment complex near our urban condo. We were there last week, and I saw a Salvation Army Food Box near the communal mail box shelter there and took a couple of cases of canned goods there to add to it. Of course ordering take out from local restaurants helps them, and woo-hoo a local brewer of really tasty craft beer had to close, but is selling canned beer from their patio 3 weekday afternoons a week. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I agree with donating to food banks and other non profits that need our help now. But the best thing we could do is to get people back to work. This pandemic has been an uneven recession/depression and mostly hurt people who are lower income. White collar people and retired people can safely shelter at home. Working class people have mostly not had that convenience.

Donated to one of our local food banks. I will do so again in a bit.

Getting back to work is not a factor in what I am asking others to consider.

I really prefer this thread stay about giving and helping others not about what has to happen. Lots of other threads for that.

I don’t want the message to get buried in discussing other aspects as the need is now to feed the hungry.

Food Banks prefer cash to food donations. They can leverage the cash and get much more.
