Marriott's Manor Club at Ford's Colony- which building? Which airport?

Just called my friend at the Marriott Manor Club front desk. To all reading this thread the "Out Door Pool," is heated. The temperature is set at 86 degrees.

No, it isn't heated.

I called the front desk at the Manor Club Saturday night.

I just spoke to someone there a few minutes ago. The outdoor pool by the main building is in fact heated to 86 degrees and open all year. The other outdoor pool near the tennis courts is not heated and only open during the summer. Perhaps that explains the conflicting reports. In either case I am very happy that main outdoor pool is open all year and heated.

The outdoor pool by the tennis courts and basketball course is located in the Sequel Section of the resort and not in the MMC section. Is that clear.

Greetings:
We're not going until March 11. I'm still checking airfares, but may rule out RIC because the fares are much higher. I'm also concerned about Norfolk even though we would only be traveling through the tunnel to and from the resort. I may use the gym, but normally only swim where there is a lazy river. lol

Thanks for suggesting the Berkley building for our first trip. We are confirmed into the two bedroom section of the resort.

Oh wait. I just reread some of these posts. Are the units in the Berkley building only with lofts? That means stairs? My friend walks with a cane and doesn't do stairs often. Will this be an issue? I always have the master suite.

Only the top (third) floor of Berkeley has lofts, and yes the lofts do have stairs. Because the loft units are in such demand, if you request Berkeley but specify not the top floor you will certainly not be assigned to a loft. You may or may not get Berkeley but it is worth a try, specifying only the first or second floor units.

Is noise overheard usually an issue? I normally requests top floors whenever we vacation. Lately, we have not had too much of a problem staying on the top floor in Marriotts or RCI units. As for the lofts, are there many stairs? My friend can walk up a few, but not many. Does the loft unit have its own bathroom? Let me look at the villa descriptions again.

Each loft unit has its own bathroom. The second floor is the full bath, a bedroom, and a large open loft area with a walk-in closet. Very nice. The first floor has a full bath and a half bath as well as the master bedroom, kitchen, LR, dining room, etc., including a separate laundry room. Not a noise problem at all whenever we have stayed in a first or second floor unit in Berkeley. The stairs are the amount you would normally see in a two story house when going up to the second floor.

Thanks so much for the updates. I was able to book our flights early this morning via Norfolk. The car rental rates at the Williamsburg Airport were over $400 using discount codes. It wasn't cost effective for me to use the local airport with the car rentals being so high. I normally rent with Alamo using their codes to get my Delta skymiles, but they are not in the PHF airport. I got the car with Alamo for $180 at Norfolk. I will be better prepared in making my unit requests once I am contacted by the resort.

Glad you got the airfare part figured out. You shouldn't hit traffic leaving Norfolk unless you are traveling during morning or evening rush. Just leave enough time going back in case the tunnel is backed up. I like Berkeley the best followed by Chesapeake and then Governors. Ask for a second floor, golf view. In all of the villas other than Berkeley these will be top floor units on the backs of the buildings. Pool is heated. I was there during Christmas and folks were swimming. Brand new bistro area and bar where the market place used to be. Nice upgrade.

Restaurants: Fat Canary, DOG Street Pub, Blue Talon Bistro, Cheese Shop, Berretts all being in Merchant's Square. In New Town try Paul's Deli. Second Street is terrific. You might like the Old Chickahominy House on Jamestown Road. The restaurant at the Williamsburg Winery is good for lunch. Pierce's Pitt BBQ is a favorite of mine, but it is counter service with seating if that matters to you. Over near Manor Club are fewer restaurant choices, but Guiseppi's is very good. The best restaurant in Williamsburg IMO is Sal's by Victor. Great Italian food at very good prices in the Williamsburg Shopping Center. Great seafood at the Waypoint. If you want a quick coffee or snack when in the Merchant's Square area go get one at Aroma's.

Also, there is a brand new Harris Teeter grocery store on the corner of Centerville Road and Richmond Road. You will want to go there for any groceries. Manor Club is in Ford's Colony which is about a half mile from Centerville Road.

You have received some very good restaurant recommendations here. I would also strongly suggest that you have at least one dinner at one of the taverns in Colonial Williamsburg. Our favorite is Christina Campbell's, but there are three others also (King's Arms, Shields and Chownings).

Has anyone try The Kitchen restaurant in Williamsburg near Merchant Square?
They have some outstanding reviews in Trip Advisor. We also liked Christina Campbell's and Sal's by Victor both are very good. Please enjoy your stay in Colnial Williamsburg.

We arrived yesterday evening. I could hear people enjoying outdoor pool by the check in. It's 73 here.

Had lunch at Chicahominy House . Yum. When we were here in December we ate twice at Opus 9. They have a $10 lunch menu. Very good food.

I would call and ask front desk to mail you map of grounds. if your friend has limitations with walking Berkeley is a fair amount of steps from check-in and pool and most activities.

We're on 3rd floor in Sequel. Nice high ceilings. We have enjoyable view, nothing breathtaking, but this time of year it doesn't matter. I asked for 3rd floor because in December we had people above us who liked to run the spa tub around midnight.

My fav restaurants are Le Yaka and Opus 9. They are both members of Rewards Network (Idine) and you get 5 airline points per dollar.

It was always my understanding the outdoor pools are closed from Oct 15 each year. Williamsburg does have a winter, although very mild compared to Toronto.

Quilter, how did you enjoy your week stay at the Manor Club and the surrounding area?

We're heading to Manor Club this coming Saturday. We put in our request and at this point will be happy wherever we are assigned. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Thank you for asking. . .

We had unseasonably delightful weather so just the fact we were out of Michigan was a bonus. On one particularly sunny day it was nice to see a number of people sitting around the outdoor pool soaking in the sun. We walked over from Sequel a couple evenings to enjoy the indoor pool. It can be busy with families but we found that they cleared out about dinner time and the room would get quiet.

For President's week, Williamsburg put on an event with Presidential reenactors that brought tears to my history loving husband.

In December we stopped by Yorktown late in the day so we took a drive and visited a couple things we missed.

Food for Thought and Rick's Grill were 2 new restaurants for us. We liked them and would return.

My wife absolutely loves the shrimp and grits at Food for Thought. It is a fun restaurant with very good food.

Do you earn miles for the food you eat? As mentioned earlier I like Opus9 and Le Yaka best and the good part is they belong to Rewards Network so you can earn miles with your favourite airline.

https://m.aa.rewardsnetwork.com/

There are other restaurants on the list as searches will show...and not just in Williamsburg. If you dine 11 times with RN iDine places you'll be a VIP member and earn 5 miles per dollar spent. It's surprising how they add up over a year and the also keep your account 'active' if you don't fly much. It's free to join and the restaurants don't know you are a member as it's based on credit cards.

If you don't know about RN already it's your tip of the day. Enjoy.

We checked in yesterday and were given a second floor unit in Berkeley. The temperature is going down to 29 degrees tonight and only in the mid 40's this entire week. Well, no one controls the weather. I never plan vacations to locations that are colder in winter than my home state. We may not venture out too much this week, but this Marriott is pretty nice.

Oh, I forgot to mention that if you need to connect a device (Firestick, Roku, IPad) to the wall mounted Tv's, there's a way to do it without too much difficulty. We called for maintenance last night since I could not get the HDMI 2 port on the side of the Tv to have a signal. The maintenance man did not know either. He then asked if I tried to connect on one of the bedroom Tv's since they are not mounted. So,in the master bedroom, I connected to the HDMI 2 port on top of the box. It worked like a charm! Ok, so next, he climbed on a chair and connected to the HDMI 2 port behind the mounted Tv. Of course this means that I will need to climb on a chair before checkout, or call someone back to disconnect my Roku stick. Now, we can watch some of the Academy Awards nominated movies when we're too cold to venture outside this week.
