Updated thanks!I think you may have posted the wrong one here. This is labeled Grand Chateau, but it is the Canyon Villas newsletter.
Thank you. Helpful updates.FYI for anyone interested
The relationship seems to decrease each year. Makes me wonder when it will finally stop end.It looks like charging purchases at the JW Marriott hotel back to your room at Canyon Villas is ending;
Effective November 3, 2025, Owners and guests at Marriott's CanyonVillas will no longer have cross-charging privileges at the JW MarriottPhoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa®. Resort credit will only be accepted at Marriott’s Canyon Villas and not at the hotel. Guests may still enjoyhotel amenities when available but must use an alternative form of payment for any purchases. For questions, please contact the FrontDesk at Marriott’s Canyon Villas
I think the issue now is with licensed vs managed hotel properties. I don't know if that is the case with the JW Desert Ridge, but many of the hotel properties are moving away from even being managed by Marriott International. They are now a franchisee or licensee just using the name on the sign. The hotel management and ownership are completely independent of Marriott International. In the past while many properties were owned by a separate entity, they were still managed by Marriott International and Marriott International is the one that often made these type of amenity arrangements with Marriott Vacation Club. It was of course even better when Marriott Vacation Club and Marriott International were both part of the same company pre 2011.I am disappointed to learn that we will no longer be able to direct JW hotel charges back to our villa, at CV. We earned a lot of Marriott Rewards points that way, and I wonder if the decision to end this longstanding practice was made by the hotel, or the villas? I believe it is the villas who paid for the Marriott Bonvoy points that CV owners and guests amassed from their charges at the hotel.
There was a time that I studied the brand loyalty trajectory between Marriott Vacation Club owners and adjacent Marriott hotels. In the old days, when one looked at the brand loyalty trajectory, and followed the Lifetime Spend of MVC owners at Marriott hotels and resorts, it was impressive. I don’t know what, if anything, has changed in the customer dynamic category; certainly, the world and economy have changed; but, it seems like the once, mutually beneficial relationship, between MVC resorts and adjacent Marriott hotels and resorts has decayed. We saw this begin at Desert Springs Villas, when the JW Marriott Desert Springs changed their posture about the mutually beneficial nature of the then DSV and JW relationship. Back in that day, we spent a boat load of money at the JW, no more.
During our tenure at Canyon Villas, there seemed to be a honeymoon, between CV and the JW, in the early days of CV, but that has gradually decayed, and plummeted. I just don’t get it.
I am suspect that one important variable is the once relationship of Marriott Vacation Club as a wholly owned subsidiary of Marriott International.
Sadly, I think these losses are gone forever, and not likely to come back.
Perhaps the OP could confirm to the annual budget documents.Has there been a payment from CV maintenance fees for the access to the JW. Usually There is and owners decide they don't want to pay it anymore.
2025 budget attached:Perhaps the OP could confirm to the annual budget documents.
Thanks. I don't see an amenity fee, but there is a master association for Desert Ridge Community Association. I don't think that likely covers the use of amenities at the JW Marriott. Likely covers costs and maintenance associated with the overall property it shares with the hotel (roads, shared utilities, signage). That fee probably can't be eliminated. Just like an owner paying maintenance fees, the owners at Canyon Villas have to help cover overall costs for the entire property.2025 budget attached:
