Marriott's BeachPlace Towers Ft Lauderdale, FL - It's As Bad as We Remember

I now remember why we haven't been back sooner. This property just has no appeal for us. We are finishing up a week long stay and will likely leave one night eary (we have a one night overlap with a week long stay in Orlando). The shortfalls may be well known to some, but here they are;

• The BeachPlace parking garage is on floors P4 and P4. All the way at the top. So lots of circular driving. And a $14 per night parking fee to go along with it. We should have done this but for whatever reason we didn't. Park on P1 and pay the Beachplace garage weekly rate of $65. Save some money and some headaches. Going anywhere outside the resort is a chore.
• They have a whole bunch of linen carts blocking one of the handicap parking spaces in the garage. This is a big problem. Why would they do this?
• Pool is small. We haven't even used it.
• Our vila is on the south end of the hallway. The hallway always smells like trash because the trash chute is right next to our villa. The other night I tried to put trash in it and it was backed up. Backed up past the 6th floor!
• The BeachPlace mall is still unappealing with very few dining and shopping options and a lot of empty storefronts.
• Elevators are bad but are bare better than I remember and getting an elevator Mon-Thu isn't too hard, but Fri-Sun is awful with everyone coming and going.
• Luggage carts are certainly not easy to find on checkin/checkout day. I went to the 19th floor and went down one at a time until I found one sitting there on the 11th. WIth the elevators being so bad, there is no incentive to return them to lobby level.
• The villas are noisy. We are only on the 6th floor but with 5 levels of parking we are actually on the 11th. There is a lot of noise in the villa from the street (we have intracoastal view)

Dioxide, all valid complaints about BP Towers. Now imagine all that DURING Spring Break week at the very start of CoVID in March of 2020 when we were there! We are still amazed and thank our lucky stars that we got out of there without getting sick!

Well, I like Beachplace Towers (BPT).

I was there in a December and it wasn’t crowded. I remember the parking being on a higher floor, but being from NYC, I didn’t think too much of it. $14 per day parking is a bargain in my eye. I was at the San Diego Pulse and they wanted nearly $40. I loved the resort’s location. You’re right across the street from the beach and there are restaurants galore within walking distance. That’s the appeal of this property to me. The pool is small, but it’s right across the street from the beach. More importantly, you have a full villa with a kitchen and laundry facilities unlike the Pulse properties in metropolitan areas. I still see BPT as kind of a city even though it’s not a “big city”.

After having problems with finding luggage carts at several of the properties during this summer, I just figure that’s par for the course. I don’t like making excuses for companies, but sometimes people are lazy and some keep the carts in their unit. This I find is not unique to BPT. The trash and noise I didn’t have to deal with and didn’t notice during my stay. I’m sure it’s a problem when you’re negatively impacted by it.

I enjoyed being at BPT and my experience/perception was different. I’m not so particular, but my wife liked it and she’s EXTREMELY particular.

We love BeachPlace. Wonderful restaurants are walkable and the water taxi is a complete treat. We love being in the center of the action and watching the ships out in the ocean. The staff has always been very nice and helpful. We go to Beachplace every year for 2 weeks, stay on the oceanside and in the "bump out". Glorous views of the ocean!

We stayed at BPT during Spring Break (began March 19) and had no problems. Didn't bother to rent a car so garage was not an issue. Location was 9th floor ocean-view. Elevators restricted to a couple of people because of COVID, but polite requests to join another couple were granted (by us and by them). Walked to restaurants--lots of goods ones nearby. We got a day pass for the trolley so we could spend time on Las Olas. I'd have no objection to staying there again.

It's always good to hear both the good and the bad, so thanks for posting this. I think the appeal of BeachPlace depends on your audience. I don't care for it, but I have rented it out easily during spring break.

We vacation every January at Beachplace and have been back every January for the last 5 years…we never ever rent a car..we always stay in a high floor intracoastal view corner unit..we very rarely use the pool…there’s a beautiful beach right across the street..and lots of very good restaurants with in walking distance..a couple of times during our stay we take the nearby water taxi down the intracoastal waterway to other restaurants..we also take the water taxi for an overnight stay in Hollywood..never been to BPT any other time than mid January..and we probably never will…but I will say.…In mid January..South Florida has the warmest January average temps in the USA..excluding Hawaii..we really enjoy BPT in mid January and I’m sure we will continue to do so.

We will be staying from September 12th to September 19th, so naturally we would prefer doing the weekly rate. What do we need to do to get the weekly rate? The $65 for the week is directly through the Beach Place mall garage. You would take a ticket when you go in, but outside of that I don't really know how it works. I know there were a lot of people there doing this. Many parking on P1 and P3 and taking the guest elevators up. Perhaps someone else here who has done this can provide some more info.

We recently stayed at the W in a 2BR with kitchen on a high floor and loved it. It is a few blocks from Beach Place. A few blocks north of the W, there is a great Japanese restaurant named Takato. We went twice because it was so good. Compared to the W, BeachPlace does not seem as appealing. But if we did not have a 2BR suite, I would have preferred a 2BR at BeachPlace.

Beachplace Towers is a resort many like and many dislike. We have been several times.

Pros:

• Beach
• Plenty of restaurants/nightlife/activities
• Good ocean and intracoastal views
• MVCI villa size/quality (standard)

Cons:

• Small pool
• Few activities/ amenities on site
• Parking garage is far from the best
• Slow elevators
• Beachplace mall
  • Could be a pro or con based on your view, but more of a con in my view as the mall stores/restaurants are pretty low quality establishments. Wish it would be a little more upscale.

I’m not opposed to going to Beachplace. It is a nice urban beach spot. But it is far down the list. Certainly not a favorite of ours.

We always enjoyed Beach Place Towers. After our first time there we learned about the week parking ticket through the garage. After checking in, go to the bottom floor to the main office of the garage. I believe it is in a corner near the main entrance.(there are signs pointing to the location) You must have your slip showing that you are a guest at BPT and then they will rent you the week that is cheaper than the $14 a day. If you are staying two weeks, I believe the fee was even cheaper. We usually parked on a higher level just below the Marriott parking floors. There is an entrance which is very similar to the owners' level on that floor. While we were in Ft. Lauderdale we always went to Kelly's Landing which has the BEST lobster and clams from MA. I have not been back because of my husband's death in 2018, but we loved it and went every late January or February.

We always go to BPT for 2 weeks every January to celebrate my wife’s birthday and to get away from the cold temps and snow in NJ..average temps in January in NJ are 24 low and 39 high..whereas Ft Lauderdale has a 57 and a 76 split in January…we consider BPT our home away from home in January.We also love cruising in water taxi down the Intracoastal seeing the multi million $ mansions up close

We liked Beach Place Towers for our 50th wedding anniversary several years ago . Great location to restaurants, the water taxi, the cruise port and to the FLL Airport. We were on the 16th floor, with a canal view two (2) bedrooms lockout unit .

Agree. The water taxi being right on the corner within a couple min walk is nice. I enjoy the ride through the intracoastal…by all the mega mansions. Fun to dream of owning one.

We enjoy Ocean Pointe to relax after a long cruise vacation. This is a resort for total R&R.

We were scheduled to go on a cruise and to Oceana Palms in 2021 but had to cancel because of COVID-19.

We were at Oceana Palms in May and really enjoyed our time there..definitely a different vibe than BPT…We will be at Ocean Pointe in late October early November and are looking forward to that resort..we took a look around Ocean Pointe in May and liked the property.
