Good to see they will have a dedicated CIO. Hopefully it helps them improve their technology and website, but I won't count on it. At least not yet.

Yep, we should not expect change for some time but I do see this a positive move.

Interesting to have jumped from a huge well-regarded multinational corp (Nike) to a relatively obscure corporation in a niche industry.

That said, the IT experience with Nike seems to be very good in terms of ordering and fulfillment (I bought direct from them a couple of times during the pandemic and it went well). Not sure how much credit he can take for the Starbucks App (said he was responsible for that) - but it is also a highly functioning app (probably too well!).

I just hope the ties to and legacy of Marriott Hotels - as well as the apparent IT lack of IT functionality won’t serve to drag his ambition down…

Maybe he made the jump because he likes a big challenge? That's definitely what he's facing...

Going from a VP title to a C-suite title is a likely driving force, even for a much smaller corporation. I'm sure the money is good too!

this implies they never had a CIO? Upside is he reports directly to the top and not Accounting. Be surprised to see anything significant in less than 3-5 years, but one can hope.
The current CEO, John Geller, had IT in his portfolio prior to being elevated to his current role. I'm speculating, but perhaps he thought he could effectively manage that function even with the expanded responsibilities. Happy to see they brought someone in with a dedicated IT position.

As indicated, John Geller was kinda over IT before taking the CEO position. His prior position was just President.

I like to think that, "it takes one to know one" is in play here, and Geller is using the advantage of his new role to expand a role that he knows from personal experience was significantly underperforming.

Let’s just hope he can make things better sometime soon.
