We are staying at the Barony Beach Club this spring. Does anyone know if the Marriotts on Hilton Head let you use other Marriott resorts (i.e. Grande Ocean) facilities?

I'm just curious why you'd want to? In other words, is there something that GO offers that Barony doesn't? I actually like the pool better at Barony... Just my humble opinion.

Barony is currently redoing the garden side pool area. It should be very nice when completed.

I am not sure of their current completion date. I believe they expected to be finished this spring. They started a little later then they planned.

Depending on your dates this pool area may not be open.

Just curious, so I called the front desk this morning. According to my source, the projected completion date for the Barony Garden Section pool project is May 3, but they are approximately ONE MONTH AHEAD, so conceivably those visiting in April might have full use of it. BUT, don't be disappointed if it misses that early date. Sometimes projects tend to take every bit of time originally allotted, and most often more.

But it does look like an early opening date, imho. The new features include a remake of the pool (approximately same size) with a zero-entry area, a water slide, "other" water features for kids, a fire pit area, and a new grilling area with 2 outdoor sinks. Not bad. They didn't have to do it.

It's always been a very tranquil location, and the prevailing disappointment (if there was one) was always "no view", but that aside, the villas are slightly larger than the oceanside and oceanfront, and the setting is more quiet. Still only a 5-minute walk to beach, so not the worst location at HH.

As far as HH resorts go, it's much closer to the ocean than most. We own a couple of weeks in the oceanside villas, but have rented several times at the garden units, and always enjoy it. Now, the outdoor enhancements will make it a lot more desirable for families with kids.......some may even request that location.

I just returned from Barony. The dates on the signs for the Garden Villas pool says May 1...work seemed to be happening more slowly there this week (granted, we had a couple drippy/rainy days.) They also drained the large feature pool in front of the Ocean Villas while we were there--not sure why, and work was active and ongoing on the new beach bar/restaurant.

All the construction made trying to get from the Garden Villas to the Ocean area a bigger pain in the patootie than normal. But they had definitely increased the free-alcohol activities, guessing that you would forget all about the construction in the miasma. ;)

The new pool seems like it will be fantastic once it is done. Definitely would make the Garden Villas more attractive.

Yes they do, at least Barony did. I was at Grande Ocean over Christmas and the wife booked into the spa at Barony. While she was there I wanted to use the gym and pool facilities and had no problem. Front desk even provided a key card. All they needed was confirmation I was staying at GO (key card from GO and an ID card. I also asked GO if they would do the same if it were the other way around and they said they would.

The spa at Barony doesn't surprise me because it's an independent vendor that's simply leasing the space - anybody can schedule spa treatments. But you being allowed to use the gym and pool is a surprise, considering that there are days when the GM doesn't even allow Day Passes for owners to be issued. I know the GO owners here are usually adamant that no one can use GO's facilities if they're not staying onsite. Maybe you just got lucky because it was a slow time of year?

I guess it just never hurts to ask either.

Perhaps they provided day use to a spa guest. Not sure if the spa owners have some type of arrangement with the property? With the price of spa services, I could that being included. Though my guess is you couldn't do it without paying for a spa service.

 Could be. But that wouldn't explain why someone at Grande Ocean told Hornet that a Barony guest could access GO's facilities?

I've also gone to the Spa at Barony while staying at GO and was allowed to use the pool for "relaxation" before/after massage. I didn't get in the water but I had lunch by the pool.

I can see if someone was visiting HHI for the first time wanting to see the other properties but packing up gear to sit by the other pool seems like a lot of hassle for the same thing you can do right next to your own unit.

Agreed with the comment of preferring Barony's facilities.

We've been able to attend activities at other Marriott resorts (movie nights, kids activities, etc).
