Marriott resale question

I own a platinum week at Marriott Mountainside. About two years ago I took a tour there just to get the points.

The agent then told me that all of the Mountainside weeks were sold out, but that they had a couple available in the resale program. He said they went very quickly, and that if Marriott desired they could sell all of them overnight to people on waiting lists to buy units. They've made the decision, however, to limit the sales to people taking timeshare tours.

I called the resale office the other day and got quite a different story. The rep there told me that they were just now starting to take Mountainside units in their resale program, that they had a huge backlog of units to sell, and it would probably be at least a year before mine would even be listed.

Has anyone else had this experience? I'm trying to figure out if their timeshare sales have gone this bad this quickly or if the first agent was feeding me a line,

Or both.

I believe what the salesman told you is called "poofing the product". Make people think that they are getting a rare opportunity to purchase something in short supply. Standard salespeople hype!

Marriott Resales

Interesting thread.

I was at the Marriott Custom House about six months ago and they did not have one resale Platinum week available.

Then I was there again last week and they now had many resale Platinum weeks available.

I asked why now? They told me that people are "bailing" as the economy downturns and they need to unload their weeks to raise funds.

So I guess vacation ownership takes it on the chin during tough times.
