Resorts Owned
Marriott Barony Beach Club
As a new Marriott Vacation Club (MVC) owner I have 2500 points + 1 week at the Barony beach club (2 bedroom). Is it possible to swap my ownership of 2500 points with Marriott or another MVC owner for a 2 bedroom with a lock off and enrolled? I heard lock offs can be more valuable in that you can split it into 2 weeks.

How "new?" But the general answer is no if I am understanding what you are asking.

Please explain what you mean by swapping.

Like the others I am not sure what you are asking-
You use your points to book a stay at an Abound resort directly on MVC or a non abound resort via interval international.

You can stay at Barony in your season with your ownership or deposit it into II and make an exchange.
Or elect it to points if it’s enrolled.

Sounds like you are regretting what you purchased since you didn’t buy an enrolled lock off but the only way to fix that is to sell off what you have (likely at a loss) and start over but you can’t buy an enrolled week resale.
How long ago did you buy? Are you still in the rescission period.

Since learning how the MVC process works and how the Interval International exchange works (over the past few months), I think I know enough to be dangerous. I discovered that I may be able to get essentially two weeks for one MVC 2 bedroom lock off after splitting and exchanging it on the Interval International. I didn't know what a lock off was initially until just a few days ago, and discovered my 2 bedroom week was a non-lock off. I bought my MVC points and Barony week about 1 1/2 years ago. But true, if I know what I know now, I would have bought differently.

I'm just trying to find out how I can maximize my value and flexibility. Thank you for responding so quickly to me. This is my first on the Tug forum, so learning this to. I'm still pretty ignorant of how much of this works.

Did you purchase the week and points as a bundle from MVC…ie, is your week enrolled?

Yes I owned just 1 MVC lock off and used it to exchange for 2 trips most years as we raised our family.

Are you concerned now that you don’t own enough for your vacation needs (need the lock off to get another week) or just upset that you didn’t buy the lock off that had potential for an extra week when exchanged?

The only way for you to get a lock off is to buy one (2Br from a resort with lock offs) and if you don’t want HHI you would need to sell that. Resale weeks won’t be enrolled.

Did you buy direct from MVC? You might contact them and see if they could work something out.

If the week isn't enrolled the screw job was deep, but I'd still be surprised.

The simple answer is no you can't just swap to another form of ownership, you can buy a lock-off resale for a good price and use that. Hopefully the Barony week is enrolled so you could elect for club points and then do Sun-Thurs reservations in lower season to get better value.

Don't get too hung up on whether you have the most optimal ownership for what other people think you could have, focus on using your ownership well for your needs. You can still get great value vacations and stretch that by things such as 2 x 6 nights using shortstay exchange, promotional Accom certs via II and getaways via II.

Locking off is a good strategy, but not the solution to everything. Even a low season 2-bed MVC can exchange very well in II if you follow the basics of requesting early and being sensible about what you request.

If you’re asking can you swap the trust points for a deeded week, the answer would be no.

I'm delighted that you discovered what a "Lock Off" was!

Thank you all for all your input. Very helpful! And thank you for inviting me into the Tug forum. Just joined yesterday for $15. I think it is too late to buy a 2 bedroom lock off. So, I will use my 2 bedroom Baron beach club (which is enrolled but not a lock off) to the best use I can. I did buy it as a bundle so got points with the week.

One option is to look for a resale lock-off there. Then you can convert your enrolled week for points and deposit you lock-off week

I think you were perhaps trying to change your avatar. Did you follow the steps in link from post #15?

Yes I put in the code and still has me as guest.

Great success!
