Hello.
The II resort description indicates that the Marriott's Phuket Beach Club (MPU, MP1) is fully integrated with the Marriott Resort but does not say the same about the Mai Khao Beach (MKB). Does anyone know if the Mai Khao Beach Club has the same access to hotel amenities as the Phuket Beach Club.

If you are at Mai Khao, you are not able to use JW facilities such as the pools, gym etc. You can use paid services, of course. Beaches are public. There is a shuttle back and forth. Does that answer your question?

Perfectly. Thank you. We are requesting a trade and prefer those resorts that share facilities if available.

The other thing that is better about the Phuket Beach Club is that MK is not on the beach. Its a bit up the road. Nice walking and better grounds IMHO. I hope you get the exchange. Have a wonderful time.

Thanks again. It's such a long way to travel we plan to go for three weeks. Our request window is late Oct to early Dec. What we can't get in timeshare we'll stay in the hotel. Where do you fly into. Have you ever flown into Bangkok and if so how did you continue on to Phuket? We were thinking about a short one or two day layover there. First time in that part of the world so Any advice / recommendations are appreciated,

From the same part of the World-to my fav part of the World. (We live in MD.)

We've been 6 times and always flown into Bangkok. Depending on our schedule, we will either stay a few nights at the JW Bangkok-AWESOME lounge if you are Gold or Plat. Easy access to public transport. Or we just sleep over at the Best Western BKK. (then do a few nights at the end at the JW) I love Bangkok. Shopping, walking around etc. If you stay in Bangkok, this is a great tour company-with a desk at the JW. (They will pick you up at any hotel.) betours.net

We will then buy a sep. ticket on Thai Airways for the dates we need to get back and forth Bangkok-Phuket.

IMPORTANT: Bangkok has 2 airports. BKK is the main international airport with a lot of domestic service. They also have a smaller airport DMK that services low cost carriers. I often read on message boards where folks don't realize they are flying into one airport and out of another domestically. Making connections a real pain-or impossible.

However, if you don't want to do Bangkok, most SE Asia airlines will connect right to Phuket from their hubs.

Are you flying from Dulles? We have driven to Dulles and flown ANA to Tokyo then onward to Bangkok.

I agree totally.
We have stayed in most of the South East Asia capital cities.
This October we are staying in Kuala Lumpur, just because it is new to us, but Bangkok always has an amazing vibrancy and we really look forward to spending a few days there each trip before moving on to the peace and tranquility of beautiful Phuket Beach Club.

Sold! Bangkok it is. We are in the early stages of planning for 2017 so I don't know where we will fly out of. We are in Va. Beach or 2 hrs to Richmond and 3-4 to Dulles so either are ok if the savings are enough. From looking at the room rates during my travel window the resort is a truly acceptable alternative if the timeshare doesn't come through for all requests. What do you think about my choice of late Oct - early Dec.

That will be rainy season. The later in the year the "rainier". December begins to dry out. However, IMHO, the rain takes the edge off the heat and is not usually a washout. VA Beach! I just flew back forth from Norfolk earlier this week. I would also consider JFK as a port to exit the US as well then-connecting from ORF.

My advice for routing. Be creative. Price from the airport you are leaving the country for best comparison. In 2013, we were taking some family to Cabo. Our daughter's family lives in Fayetteville, NC. The cost from FAY-Cabo (via clt) Was double that of just CLT-Cabo because of the 45 min flight from Fayetteville to Charlotte. As we were buying the tix, we had them drive to Charlotte.

You can get real comparisons pricing out of IAD, EWR, JFK then decide how to get there-bundled ticket, sep ticket (allow good connection time!), one way car rentals etc. We have done it all. :)

There are several Phuket owners here. Happy to help with any questions/things to do once you are booked. You are going to be in paradise!

Well, maybe I'll shift right a little. I was trying to hit that sweet spot between the rainy season and the higher demand/prices. Thanks to both of you for the help. I may take you up on the offer as the time gets closer.
Bazzap, appreciated your posts related to St. Kitts and a recent trip we made. Very helpful. Loved that place and want to go back.

I agree on st kitts. We were there in March after being away for a couple of years and loved it! I like the quietude compared to the other islands. Looking forward to returning next year!

You might want to consider late summer then. We were there in July one year. Afternoon showers on some days-less than 30 mins. That was it.

Back to the drawing board. I had taken a quick look at the averages and zeroed in on a plan. May have missed the mark. Thank you.

The averages chart I looked at was probably done by our local weather guy. I think his degree was in almanac studies

Some interesting thoughts on the weather in these posts.
January to March are generally regarded as the better months, but as a result they tend to be busier and more expensive.
We have always gone last week October to mid December, as we prefer it quieter.
Typically for the first week or so from approx 4pm we would get a heavy downpour and then it would be over.
It is true that in the last two years the risk of showers / downpours seems to have extended into early November, but generally we have still found November and December weather very pleasant.
