Greg, that sounds good. I am glad it worked out for you and Jack. I don’t recall the building we were in, but Others will provide insights. I would definitely recommend driving to surrounding areas to check them out, including Miami Beach. Lots of restaurants for either lunch or dinner. Have a great trip.

Best regards.

Mike

Greg. It looks like the Universal Parks will be open by the time you get here. I am not sure what if any special requirements they will have. As for buildings at Ocean Pointe, I would request Sailfish or Dolphin. We just drove past Ocean Pointe this evening and it looks like they may have Kingfish closed. I didn't see any cars there, but there were also so few cars in the parking lot for the entire resort. Not a very busy place.

Hi Greg:
I await your report. I was showing Tim the webcam of the beach a few days ago.
Have a great time!
Cheers,
Maria

Greg, looks like we'll be more or less with you guys, Oceana Palms late June then Grande Vista early July using up our yearly passes at Universal. I've been trying to trade to Ocean Pointe the last couple of weeks because Oceana Palms is resurfacing their pools through the middle of July-ish, but to no avail so far.

As for room recommendation, I'd suggest high floor Pompano south-facing - it's a view of the inlet and as long as it's at least 4th floor it's a really solid ocean view.

We stayed in the King fish building on the 6th floor in an ocean side villa during Christmas 2019 and it was amazing. It had a nice ocean view.

Jeremy,

Agreed, we will have 4 days at the Universal Parks after 6 nights at Ocean Pointe -- I'm excited for the combination, and our first stay at both Ocean Pointe and Grande Vista. TUGgers have been very generous with their comments and pictures and I'm looking forward to the trip. Maui is always special to me, but it will have to be special next year. We visited Orlando two years ago (Sabal Palms) before a broader family trip and I hope to not work nearly as much on this trip as I did that one. Looking forward to scuba diving and theme parks!

Thanks all for the comments and suggestions, they are greatly appreciated!

Best,

Greg

We enjoyed Grand Vista for their onsite golf courses and their difference pool complex.

Kingfish is presently closed due to low occupancy. Current occupancy is running at 100 rooms or so (19% occupancy to be exact).

These figures are as of yesterday, Wednesday May 27th, 2020. Obviously they at some point will be forced to open the Kingfish building. My guess is that this will happen when they either run out of Oceanfront Villas (and need the Oceanfront inventory) or when the occupancy rate exceeds 80%.

I'm assuming that keeping the building shuttered as long as possible makes sense in terms of overhead expenses. There currently is no food and beverage availability at either of the Ocean Pointe on site bars (both are closed).
