My colleague and I will be flying into West Palm Beach next Thursday and stay at the Marriott Ocean Pointe for one night. Could someone recommend a nice restaurant (preferably seafood) for dinner near the resort, or between the resort and the airport? Money is not an object since company is paying:)

Thanks!

Ruth's Chris is a steak house but they also have a pretty good seafood menu. The Reef grille is a small out of the way place in a strip mall but it's great for seafood but I think the Stone Crab Claws are out of season now. Jetty's is in Juno but that's about 20 min north of OP. Carmine's, Bonefish, Sailfish Marina are all nearby. Max and Eddie's is a short walk from the hotel and has excellent seafood even though it's an Italian restaurant. They also have a tremendous wine list.

Thursdays At Sailfish Marina Restaurant

Sailfish Marina Restaurant is a great place to go on Thursday nights.
Starting at about 6pm the whole marina is crowded with vendors, an outdoor
bar, and live music. It's a nice time to spend at a pretty marina. Plus the seafood at the restaurant is good, but the stone crab claws are definitely
out of season. We were there two weeks ago.

Riverhouse Restaurant on PGA Blvd. is a great, fairly upscale, restarant. Great service and great food for my enire family and the family that was with us. We ate there once. IMO this restaurant is much better than Sailfish Marina which we ate at a couple of times because of its location. We did not experience the Thursday night at Sailfish as described above.

Panama Hatties is waterfront on the Intercoasatal at PGA Blvd. This restaurant is two steps down from Riverhouse, but offers good food for a good price. We enjoyed very much eating waterside at this location. Would definately return. We also ate there only once.

Panama Hatties - sorry, but I don't agree. We ate there in April and I would not go back. Very disappointed in the food.

Jetties - if you don't mind a 20 minute ride is very good - we've been there 4 times I think and always enjoy it. Bonefish is closer, is a chain, but is pretty good as well.

Another thumbs down for Panama Hattie's.
Would not go back. The food wasn't very good and the location is right below a busy bridge.

Athought is about a 30 minute ride......a place try is "City Place" in downtown West Palm Beach. It's a restaurant and shopping district.
There're a lot of restaurants at that location.
We really enjoyed Legal Seafoods.

Good luck

We did not like Panama Hatties either. And, Max & Eddie's was terrible the last 3 times we were there ( 3 strikes & you're out!)

For any night other than Thursday, I wld recommend Sailfish Marina b/c you can stroll over there from OP, it's lovely sitting along the intracoastal @ this time of year & the seafood is pretty good. Try the "lump crab" appetizer.

Because you will be there on Thursday night, I wld walk over to the Sailfish Marina docks & take the water taxi down to Clematis Street where you will find lots of restaurants. Thursday nights are great on Clematis with outdoor vendors & live music. Make a rez for the water taxi.

We have lunch at Panama Hattie's every time were in town. We've always enjoyed our lunch but it's never been something to write home about. We arrive around 11:00 and get a table overlooking the intercoastal waterway. I really think my wife enjoys the view more than anything else.

There is also the Waterside Cafe right across the waterway from Panama Hattie's. We ate there last December. I thought the food was better but, they didn't have anything on the menu my wife enjoyed and the view wasn't quite as good. So looks like we'll be one of the odd ducks that enjoy's Panama Hattie's and will continue to go there for lunch. We've never eaten dinner at Panama Hattie's so I can't comment on their quality for dinner.

Jettie's and The Crab House (right next door) are both good. Again I think we enjoy the view more than anything else. Crab House offers an all you can eat seafood buffet with is fare and a decent value if you're hungry. I think if we eat there again I'll just order off the menu rather than take the buffet.

It's to bad that I've been reading so many negative reviews of Max and Eddie's. My wife didn't enjoy their style of Italian but I thought they were good.Since my wife didn't enjoy their menu we haven't been back in 5 years. I'm wondering if ownership may have changed and things went south.

We enjoy Sailfish Marina for breakfast or lunch but really weren't impessed with their dinner menu, service or quality of food. I'm not certain why dinner was different from breakfast or lunch but it was and we haven't been back for dinner.

Even though they are about 20 minutes north of OP, I also vote for either Jetty's or the Crab House. They are right next door to each other in Jupiter and we very much enjoyed both the food and the view at both locations. I was not as impressed with the Waterside Cafe (either the food or the view), although it is closer. Bonefish Grill is much closer and, although I haven't eaten at that one, I have eaten at the one by us (at home in NJ) and like it very much.

Last time we were there, we ate at the Okechobee Steakhouse. We were VERY impressed. It is not too far from the airport, I think. Hubby had a great steak, but since I'm not much of a steak eater, I had the stuffed shrimp. It was very good. They also had other seafood items on the menu. BTW, I also had a key lime martini there that was to-die-for.

Since 2001 I've driven by the Okechobee Steakhouse and wondered if it was any good. Maybe this coming November when we're back in town we'll have to stop in for dinner one night.

It doesn't really look it from the outside, but is actually quite elegant inside. Hubby had the delmonico (ribeye), his favorite steak, that he has enjoyed at too many places to count. He said that it was ranked right up there with his 'Ruth Chris' Steak, which he always proclaimed to be the best steak he has ever had (and definitely the most expensive!).

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have been to Bonefish (Hilton Head), Ruth Chris, and Legal Seafood (Boston) and am looking for an local upscale Seafood restaurant. Also, my colleague is a vegetarian but she does eat seafood, so we'll try not to go to a Steakhouse unless it has really good seafood dishes.

Sailfish sounds like a fun place to be if on vacation, but Thursday night sounds a little too much for us (probably still need to discuss work at dinner...)

Reef Grille and Jettie's sound good. Wish the stone crab claws were still in season though. I had them in New Orleans last month for the first time and really loved them.

Someone mentioned "City Place" in downtown West Palm Beach. Is this a nice place with lots of good restaurants? If so, we may just go there to see which one catches our eye. Our flight is supposed to arrive around 6pm. Is City Place close to PBI?

If you want to go upsacle, then a trip to the Breakers hotel on Palm Beach Island would be in order. They have a couple of fine dining restaurants or you could opt for a more casual meal at their Seafood Bar. Valet parking tickets are validated and the valet is free (except for tip) if you at least have a drink there. When we had drinks at the Seafood Bar (bar is actually a tropical fish tank) we were notified in advance that there is an automatic tip of 20% added to all checks. I made the comment that rich people must forget to tip a lot and the bartender confirmed my suspicion and then proceeded to name a few names when asked who was the worst.

If you want upscale The Breakers is about as upscale as you can get. They have three main dining rooms. One is black tie. The other two jackets are required for men. You can eat in the bar but I'm not sure what the dress code is after six. Be prepared for $100 a plate with tip and a glass of wine. If the company is paying that's where I'd aim for. Charley's Crab is excellent and the dress is more casual. There are two Restaurants on the north side of Royal Poinciana that are also upscale and very good. I've eaten in both but I don't remember the names. All of these are on Palm Beach and within a mile of each other. Reservations are probably a good idea. If you do decide to go to Palm Beach try just about any of the places on Worth Ave, Bice is nice. Palm Beach is 10 minutes from the airport straight east. To get back to the resort you cross back over the bridge and go north about 20-25 minutes.

City place is and upscale shopping mall with some chain restaurants. A few blocks away on Clematis Street there are some nicer ones but on Thursday Clematis Street hosts a huge street fair and is somewhat crowded.

I would not go to Panama Hatties :( The view would have been nice if we were closer to the window but the food was mediocre at best.
There are several nice restaurants near the Gardens mall in Palm beach Gardens. The Strip house, Rosa Mexicano and the Yard House are all next to each other. Make a reservation or be prepared to wait. Our favorite restaurant without kids is Couco Pazzo Italian Bistro in Lake Worth. Its Northern Italian, with a great shrimp risotto. We also go to The Riverhouse if we can ditch the kids for a second night.

Sailfish Marina is close if you don't want to travel. The food is good but not great. The view at sunset makes it worth the money.

Do be sure to try P.F. Changs at the Palm Gardens Mall, which serves upscale Chinese Food. It's excellent and you can usually count on waiting unless you call in advance.

Don't forget to try the Lettuce Wraps!

As it turned out, my friend was in the mood for Italian, so we went to Carmine's on PGA Blvd and had a very enjoyable dinner. The Gnocchi Alla Crema Tartufata was really good. She had some pasta with salmon and asparagus which is also good but I liked my choice better.

Thanks all for your help. The Ocean Pointe is lovely. Need to plan on an exchange now...:)

Hi, LisaH, Thanks for getting back to us. Happy to hear that you enjoyed Carmines. I have heard good things about it. But, unfortunately, when we were there we did not care for the atmosphere, the food or the "attitude". Maybe it was just an "off night" but we have not returned. Perhaps we shd give it another try next time we are @ OP.

How's the weather @ OP? Which building are you in?

Smooth Air:cool:

Just got back from FL. We were in Sailfish (?) building. My colleague and I booked a studio for each. They couldn't get two studios in the same building so they gave us a 2BR on the second floor with an OK ocean view.

The food is good there but my colleague commented that it looks like any restaurant from New Jersey. it does remind me of these restaurants from The Sopranos. :)

Oh, the weather was lovely yesterday, not too hot. Today, it rained quote a bit around noon though.

Not too nearby, about a 20 minute drive to Jupiter, is one of our favorite restaurants, Little Moir's Food Shack, click the link for the write up on my dh's blog. It's casual and crowded but they do amazing things with fish. It's definitely one of the places we always look forward to returning to when visiting Ocean Pointe.

Where would you all recommend I send my mom for Stone Crab in January when she visits WPB?

No love for the Panama Hattie's here? We actually enjoyed it. We also enjoyed Tailfish. Max and Eddies was alright, we were kind of indifferent, thought it was a little overpriced for what it was.

Max & Eddies used to be really good but the past 3 times it was awful. So, we won't be going back. Three strikes & you're out. Was M & E part of the Ocean Mall area that was razed recently...or across the parking lot?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Whatever you do; DO NOT go to M&E.

Sailfish Marina is FANTASTIC!!!!! You can actually walk to it in 10 mins......Drive 1.5 mins.

You guys realize this thread was started for a trip in May of 2008 right? It was brought up from several pages back as an advertisement for one particular restuarant along with another old thread in the Florida section.
