We have a week coming up at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club 11/16/13-11/23/13 and we are obviously very excited. According to our II confirmation it is for a 2-Bed ZZAB which is for an OCEANFRONT. This is also confirmed when checking my Marriott Rewards account. YAY!!!

We have stayed at WKORV many times but this will be our first time at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club. I have a few questions specific to this resort. We will be staying in the older section with the 2b/3b.

  1. At the WKORV, we love the washer/dryers in each unit, both in the 1-bedroom side and the studio side. We know that the Marriott Maui Ocean Club does not, at least in the older converted section, which is disappointing. I have heard there are coin operated washer/dryers in the basement. Do these get busy and do you have to babysit them or can you leave them running and return when they should be done? Are there multiple machines to do several loads at the same time? What is the cost? Does the new tower that was purposely built as timeshares have washer/dryers in each unit?
  2. Is there a Kids Club similar to the one that WKORV has. Here is a link to the WKORV Kids Club http://www.westinkaanapali.com/pdf/2013_6_KC Info.pdf. My kids actually like to do the Kids club at least one day out of the week and it isn't so bad for us as well.
  3. Anyone have a copy of the resort activities?
  4. How is the snorkeling in front of the resort or will it be necessary to walk towards black rock for the good snorkling?
  5. Any good waves for the kids to go boogie boarding or learn to surf in front of the resort? The one thing about WKORV that I don't like so much is that the water is very calm in front of their resort. Decent to good snorkling at times, but the waves have never been big enough to boogie board or surf when we have been there.
Anybody else there the week before Thanksgiving?

Laundry facilities are free and usually readily available except for check-out day. New units do have in-room laundry.

I think you can snorkel right in front of the resiort but the Black Rock is much better.

In the Napili and Lahaina buildings, the laundry is only in the kitchen.

There are surfing lessons in front of the Napili building. The waves are minimal. The depth of the beach varies depending on the time of the year.

There is a kids activity center.

On anything specific, I recommend calling MOC and asking the source.

On our last day, our flight doesn't leave till 11:15 pm. I heard their is both a hospitality suite and owners lounge to use after check out. Any information or tips on these two options to use to clean up after a day at the beach/pool prior to red eye flight? Is he owners lounge only for maui ocean club owners or MVCI owners as well?

The owners lounge will be available. We are not owners and used it when we arrived early before our villa was ready. Not sure if they have a spearate hospitality suite though.

I think the hospitality suite are the facilities available near the laundry room down at pool level in the old part of the resort. The owners' lounge was next to Longboards(?)

Snorkling is only fair in front of the resort. We did however see a turtle right off the resort. Black Rock is far and away better for snorkling. There were four turtles that were "camped" out there everyday we snorkeled and this was the same both times we were at MOC (last year and back in 2005). The fish are incredible at Black Rock too. Not so much in front of the resort. The coral at Black Rock is nice but very limited in front of the resort.

If snorkeling is a priority you can drive to even better spots within 15-20 minutes farther north of the Kaanapali Beach area.

The resort staff makes sure you are taken care of the day of your flight home as well as throughout your stay. And because a huge number of mainland flights leave in the late evening they want to accommodate you and also stick to their checkout time. This is no problem because you get the run of the resort, a place to shower and change and by that time in your stay you'll be so comfortable with the resort it'll just seem like another day except you won't have your own kitchen.

I did not find the owners lounge to be restrictive. In fact I rarely have ever seen many people in any owners lounge in any resort.

The biggest tip: have a great time and enjoy your stay!

You really don't see people snorkeling in front of the resort except an occassional here and there. Probably because the waves make it turn over and more cloudy. In my opinion its not a place for kids or inexperienced swimmers to snorkel. Black Rock is a good place because you have a cove which protects part of the area from the open sea. Its a lot calmer and clearer for snorkeling. Also safer.

We are here this week and the water is very rough in front of the resort. There is a very strong undertow. My husband who is a good swimmer was knocked down and looked like a rag doll in one of the waves. It was a little scary. I would not recommend children swimming when the water is so rough. Black Rock is a much better choice.
There is a hospitality suite to use with showers if you have a late flight home.

Slight correction here, although it is irrelevant to the OP because they are staying inn the original section. In the Napili and Lahaina towers, there is also a laundry room on every third floor, so you are never more than one floor from a laundry room. This is to serve the needs of those guests who are staying in the studio units. Those having a 1BR or larger unit of course have laundry facilities in the unit.

We went to Black Rock today and snorkeling was great. We saw all kinds of fish and two large sea turtles that were very cool. My advise is to go early because it gets crowded.
