If you have the extra points, I'd go for PH. It at least guarantees you the highest floor, which will have some form of a nice view.

While I know no 3BDs were deeded PH....does the top floor for the 3BRs have PH high ceilings and skylight windows? Or not on 3BRs?
It was normal height ceilings from what I remember.

Thanks for sharing the 3rd floor view. I hope my II exchange gets us into a higher penthouse floor (HZZBA).

It’s my understanding that the room number is the building (single digit) followed by floor (two digits) followed by unit number (two digits)
- Building 1 is Kona
- Building 2 is Moana
- Building 3 is Naia

Is HZZBA the penthouse floor?

I was assuming all the PH units have high ceilings. I guess this is not the case. We booked a 2BR lock off OV on the Penthouse level. Do some of the 2BR have regular height ceilings? If so, which building would be better to request to get high ceilings?

*** Q&A FAQ ***

How do I determine the Marriott II Unit Code for an II exchange confirmation?

You can find the Marriott II Unit Code under the corresponding exchange on the My History page of the II website.

The Marriott II Unit Code for an exchange is five characters, but all the ones in the list are only four. What is the Marriott II Unit Code?
In the case of a five character Marriott II Unit Code, the first character will be either a D or an H. This letter should be ignored, the last four characters are the Marriott II Unit Code.

What do the D and/or H mean at the beginning of Marriott II Unit Codes that have five characters?
The best we have been able to determine is the following; D indicates that the inventory came from a Marriott DC points bulk bank and H indicates the inventory came from a weeks Marriott based bulk bank. Four character Marriott II Unit Codes indicate the inventory came from an owner deposit.

Is the Marriott II Unit Code an II or Marriott code?
The code is actually a Marriott code. Marriott refers to the code as the roomPoolCode. You can see this code on Marriott.com when you view the reservation and look at the web address of the Room Details. You may need to open the Room Details of the reservation in a separate window to see the code.

Does having a certain code guarantee the unit/view indicated in the list?
No. With all exchanges, the resorts have flexibility and there is no guarantee that you will get the view indicated on the reservation. Some resorts are better than others at keeping the confirmed unit type. Though there is never a guarantee.

It was only the 3br unit that I have stayed in that did not have high ceilings. Unit was just coded as 3br OV and we got top floor in Moana and it did not have high ceilings.

Could be because of where the 3br units are located in the joint part of the two sides of the towers prevent them from having high ceilings.

Just noticed that there is no code for 3br penthouse. That is probably why the 3br does not have high ceilings. It was beautiful view in the Moana 3br 16th floor unit. As soon as you open the door all you see is blue sky's and water. Have not been back to that specific room in a few years. Actually have not booled a 3br since the upcharge fees from II. Have been able to stay in the 2br side of that same 3br unit last time.

I booked a penthouse studio for my FIL and his wife once (while my family was in our 2 bedroom), and the one thing I didn’t like about the studio was that light came in through the windows high up. That would bother me if I were trying to sleep in and the sun came up. I like it dark to sleep.

I’d imagine in a 1 or 2 bedroom unit that might not be an issue, but just wanted to throw that out there.

I've heard others comment on this as one downside of the PH skylight windows. While they make the space more airy, feel larger, more light during the day, etc...there is no way to block the light in from them in the early AM. While this doesn't bother me...(I'd prefer the sun to ensure I'm up and not missing vacation time)....I imagine this may bother some who want to sleep in .

My only other comment on "top" floor views.

I recall being on the top floor of Beachplace Towers in FT Lauderdale a few years back. While a nice view...it is so high up...the people look like ants and you can't hear the waves. I actually didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. At Beachplace, I now ask for a middle floor.

At MKO, you are likely set back further from the ocean depending upon which tower and villa location. One reason I also don't prefer Hale Moana Tower, is because it is so far back from the water.

Reminds me of why I really love Maui Ocean Club OF villas...as they are just so close to the water....especially the older buildings. Hard to beat anywhere!

We were lucky enough to stay at MOC OF Lanai villa, old tower, it was absolute best view we've ever had.

Yes to the MOC OF. We've had the ocean front one bedroom with two bathrooms corner rooms with wrap around lanai, they can't be beat! Especially in whale season! You practically can reach out and pet them!

Just now packing up to head to airport back to SFO after 3 weeks! One at Ko'Olina and two here at Waiohai! It's been great. We've had this beautiful view and it makes it hard to leave. Makes up for the 3rd floor view Ko'Olina .

It is an issue in 1br and 2br units at MKO.

If you like to sleep in late with no light, do not book a penthouse unit. There are no blinds or curtains up there.
