marriott hotel points to air points for pkg

Can I please ask this here for a quick answer as my head is spinning with all my searching going on now.

If we have 300,000 MR points and buy a travel pkg for 250,000 of which 130,000 will be for the hotel and 120,00 for FF miles. There will be 50,000 left over in our account. We are finding hotels we want to go to but don't have enough FF miles for 4 of us to travel w/o paying $ and I'm really trying to just use points/miles for this trip.

My husband wants to know. Can marriott take those 50,000 hotel points and convert them into air points to be added to the FF account we choose for the pkg to give us more points to get the air tickets??

Yes, but the conversion rate from Marriott Rewards points to FF miles is lousy (and that's being generous). Your 50,000 remaining points would convert to only 15,000 FF miles according to the conversion chart. 30,000 points = 10,000 FF miles and 20,000 points = 5,000 FFmiles. Total of 15,000 FF miles.

That's why so many of us like the Travel Package. With the Package, the conversion rate from points to FF miles is 1 to 1.

Anticipating another possible question, there is no way to tack the 50,000 on to the Travel Package request to get that same 1 to 1 conversion rate.

Thank you again Dave. It is so frustrating that I can find lots of hotels but am having lots of trouble with the air. Oh well, to continue on...it's been nice sitting next to my son for hours while he plays his video game on the other computer!

Where are you trying to go? Different places take a different amount of FF miles. When we go to the Carribean we can get three tickets (used to be able to get 4 but the FF awards have changed a little) and we can get 3 for Hawaii, 2 for Europe in season 3 for off season.
