Marriott Grand Chateau Question

If you log into My-VacationClub and do a resort search for the Grand Chateau, a pop-up window displays the following (Yea, finally):

The resort will be under construction with an estimated completion date of 2014. Beginning in March 2012, we will be starting the construction process of our third tower. Although noise, dust, debris and views of construction will be prevalent and somewhat severe at times, the amenities and facilities of our completed towers will be fully operational.

This is the famous *vaporware* quote that I have referred to - just because Marriott has it popping up on its site, does not mean it is actually going to happen - EVER. They are under no municipal, financial, or other obligation to EVER add anything on to the Chateau. Whether swimming (???) in the Bathtub Pool or not - do not hold your breath . . . .

Although it's not a legally binding statement, I would say that it has just become much more likely to occur. When they start hammering in the pylons, then it will be certain.

On what are you basing this *certainty*? This blurb has been around forever, and the current economic status of Las Vegas, the economy in general and Spinco in particular, makes this LESS of a possibility every day. As we are fond of saying here - How do you know when a Marriott employee is lying? Their lips are moving . . .

If you are the site prep company hired to begin construction, then by all means, share that with us. Otherwise, join the rank and file of the distrustful.

M - who owns there.

As an owner, I hope they begin construction of the third tower. There were amenities that I really wanted to see go in. I understood from day one that there was the possiblity that only the first tower would be built and was happy when I saw them begin the second tower. The third tower is important to me, as is expanding the Marketplace, the additional pool deck, expanding the fitness center and I'd still love to see the lobby bar open.

I've read/heard to many announcements/rumors to get to excited until they actually break ground on the third tower. I'll remain hopefull but skeptical. The reasons for them not to build tower 3 outweigh the reasons to build tower 3 in my mind.

Fortunately, being satisfied with our ownership at MGC was not predicated on the completion of the tower 3 pool deck. I understand it will never have anything resembling a great pool scene. We realized that from the start. We became owners there because we loved the room layout and, the lock-off of the 3 bedroom unit was a full 2 bedroom and a full 1 bedroom, giving us a little more latitude with placing exchange requests vs having only a studio where we would have to do manual online searches daily to get a 1 bedroom unit at the resorts we were interested for exchanges.

To the end that it might increase desirablity for exchangers who do value a larger pool, I'm all for it. In the end though, it would be nice but really doesn't matter all that much to me. I suppose the fact that additional inventory could actually hurt our internal exchange value could be a drawback. Especially since we've exchange both halves of our unit for the last 3 or 4 years.

Hmmm...

I think you misread my post. I said, "When they start hammering in the pylons, then it will be certain.". So my certainty is based upon concrete action, versus speculation. I think this follows Doug's comments.

If you really want reliable information, contact the GM. That used to be Tom McCormick, maybe it still is. Telephone calls are free these days for most people, so take a few seconds from your day and ask. That's what I do with the GM at MOC. Haven't been lied to or mislead once. All sales people information I take with a grain or a block of salt.
