I want to deposit my Marriott Desert Spring I week for two weeks with Interval by splitting the Marriott week. It's been a long time since I've done this and don't remember the reservation steps with MVCI.

If somebody could please explain the necessary steps, I'd be greatly appreciative.

Lock off the week via your MVC account and then make reservations for the highest TDI week in your season. That will then give you 2 MVC reservation numbers that you can use to deposit via your II account.

Select the highest demand week in your season.
Owner deposit to II
Reserve the 1 bedroom unit
pay the $95 lock-off fee
Confirm

Return to reservation calendar
Owner Deposit to II
the Studio side of the unit will be the only option avaialble
select the available check-in date (This can be a different week than the 1 br)
Confirm

You cannot lock off prior to reserving far as I know.

Better practice for high demand week is to reserve full 2br. Often weeks go in a minute. If they only reserve 1/2, the other side may be gone after reserving.

Also if their week is enrolled there is no lock off fee. If they bought prior to 6/2010 they can enroll for free (pay annual club dues), which also allows conversion to Abound points.

There is nothing really in the MVC website about locking off. When you make the reservation, you reserve either the Master Suite or Deluxe Guest room. Once you reserve one side, one can then go back in and reserve the other.

I'm aware of the TDI.

So in summary, go to the MCVI website at 9:00am for the week that I want, reserve the Master Suite and then the Deluxe Guest room. That will result in two reservation numbers, which I will use to deposit to II.

Did I get the steps correct?

I would reserve the whole 2BR. We reserve Thanksgiving (highest TDI for Gold/White) and these are gone in under a minute. If you try to do the 2 halves you may not get both sides. Then call after the rush dies down and ask them to lock it off. Is your week enrolled or did you buy before 6/2010?

@davidvel , this makes sense. Do you know of anyone who ran into any difficulty with Marriott VC in doing a delayed lock-off ??

This is an interesting approach. I'd also like to know if anyone has successfully done it.
I've done it every year for over 15 years. All reps know how to do it, but it takes a few minutes. Lots of people here report the same. The only issue people have noted have been if you wait a long time, resorts that do not have all lockoffs may not be able to lock off. My resort (MRD) is 100% lockoff and I always do it the same day after rush dies down or within a few days. Pretty sure DSV is all lock off but not certain.

@davidvel , thanks for this info. I own at DSV1 and DSV2 and they are all LO units. I also own at Shadow Ridge Enclaves and they have some dedicated units but I think that the DLX units are all LO's.

I have been successful in reserving Thanksgiving at DSV1 and 2 at the 13 month point and doing a simultaneous split. But the risk would be reduced if I did the split later in the day. Thanks again.

I'm looking to reserve Thanksgiving at DSV1. Are you looking at week 47 for the highest TDI in White?

13 months is a different scenario, as you have to call in. I am guessing the rep holds the 2BR unit (maybe even reserves it for you) then does the manual lockoff right after, in the the same way as I call in later. Likely no risk in losing it there. As long as you tell them to get the 2BR and lock it off, I think you are safe there as you obviously can't do it online.

But I'm still able to reserve the whole unit online at 9:00am (at 12 months), correct?

Yes, there is no comparison. It is a great trader week for gold. TDI is 125. Best otherwise is other Nov. weeks at 110. Lots of families from LA go to the desert for Thanksgiving. See below:

Yes, for 2026 the best week is week 47. Occasionally it'll be 46 but not for 2026.

Correct, it is always the week that includes Thanksgiving, regardless of the week #.
