We are considering purchasing Marriott Cypress Harbour Special Season. Can anyone give us an idea of what kind of trading power we might have relative to other Marriott properties? Thanks

it would trade ok

we used to own a sport season here and we had traded to hawaii (twice ) but not marriotts . we sold our unit because CH was so easy to trade into even with an aruba timeshare we bought for $700 on e-bay . I think other options would be better for you than owning at this resort even though it is one of our favorites .

Weve been able to trade our Sport Cypress Harbour timeshare 4 times into a 2bedroom unit into The Ocean Club & Surf Club in Aruba and several times into a 2 bdrom in Arizona. We usually deposit our week a year in advance and put an ongoing request, when we're not traveling to Orlando. Have always gotten Aruba since it's one of our favorite spots to vacation. Best of luck to you. We love our Cypress Harbour timeshare and have had many many enjoyable vacations there too.

What is the difference between "sport" season and "special" season?

Beverley:confused:

Sport season includes weeks 18 - 23 and 34 - 50. Special season includes weeks 1 - 17 and weeks 51 - 52.

Thanks. So "special" season would be equivalent to platinum ...

Beverly,

Cypress Harbour also has a Summer season.

great trader

We've had great fortune trading our CH sport week. We have often deposited a sport week and then picked up a winter platinum week at any Marriott we've wanted (Desert Springs, Laguna Coast, Oahu, Kauai, and any of the resorts in Orlando). I love Cypress Harbour, but am not sure I'd buy special season there. It is, as said, relatively easy to trade into. We often go in the fall for a week by trading a lockoff. If you actually want to occupy during special season, then I'd consider it, but if you want to trade, I'd buy the less expensive sport season.

I do love the ambiance of CH, and would definitely recommend the purchase of special if that's when you want to occupy.

We own a 2 bed Platinum season at cyprus Harbour and so far have been amazed at how quickly we have managed to exchange. The first year we exchanged for Hilton Head Island and got a 3 bed ocean view in August (brand new unit). The next year we exchanged for Newport Coast villas California in August. We have now had an ongoing request for Aruba Surf club and are hopeful for this August.

We have been to Cyprus and thought it was a beautiful resort. We did not feel the atmosphere as much as I think staying at the resort has the potential to feel because we were assigned a unit all the way in the back. While beautiful, it was a huge walk to the pools and all the hub-bub. If you plan to enjoy the stay at the resort, then owning there has the perk of assuring being around the main pool, etc.

Reviving this old thread. Prior comments are nearly 15 years old!,

Is a Cypress Harbor Sport Season a good trader into other Marriott (and other II Elite properties)? Would never stay there (already have one Cypress Harbor sport which was bought as part of a hybrid bundle, and I use that one to convert to DC points). With this one I would use as a trader only but only for trading into high end Marriott and equivalent II elite properties. Is it worth it For this limited purpose (MF are approx $1500 annually)……A friend wants to sell us theirs For not all that much But we would only consider it if it’s a good trader given the above criteria.

I own Special season at Cypress and it is a rock-star trader (and a decent value for converting to points for the one I have enrolled). For Sport season you'll likely do a little worse, but if you grab week 21 (which has a TDI of 135 I think) you probably won't see a ton of difference vs. the 150 TDI of weeks 51 and 52.

That said, I generally don't trade as it's definitely not the best trader available in the Marriott Orlando portfolio. The best is Grande Vista 2 BR lockoff platinum in the Florida Club, then Harbour Lake 2 BR platinum. Main reason is lockoff capability to get two weeks out of one. Cypress doesn't lock off, and it has a shorter platinum/special season (doesn't have summer included).

You can pick up a Harbour Lake platinum unit on eBay for under $1K easily - you might have to fight off ROFR a couple of times like I did. Grande Vista is probably more like $2-3K acquisition cost, but the maintenance fees are about $100 less that Harbour.

Thank you so it is your suggestion not to grab this for a couple hundred bucks for a trader for the purposes I outlined? I’d rather look for an inexpensive harbor lake for my intended purposes?

Yes - that would be my suggestion. You'll have to pass through ROFR either way.

Cypress does not have a lockoff option. So you have to trade the full 2BR unit. GV or HL both lockoff so they are better options as traders.

It is probably a good trader, just as all other 2BR MVC properties would be, but it isn't an ideal unit to acquire in order to trade. No lock off is a non starter when it comes to ideal traders. What you can get with the 2BR Cypress Harbour in a trade can probably also be obtained using a 1BR from a 2BR lock off. You then also have the studio to get a second exchange.

Yes, the 2 trades is always a good thing. Would never use the Cypress Harbor (or Harbour Lake) property for our own use.

IMO it'd have to be roughly free to use as a trader, even then giving up the lock off option takes it off the table for me as a trader. It should trade roughly the same as GV Gold but possibly slightly higher if you can get the right weeks due to the difference in seasonal Calendar's.

I own Harbor Lake, Grande Vista, and Willow Ridge. Haven’t stayed at a single one of them! Lol
