Marriott Aruba

I dont know if you guys have been to the Flying Fish bone recently. They have really increased the number of tables in the sand. Its much more crowded now and IMHO detracted from the more secluded experience from our first visit.

I think they have about 1/3 more tables now than their website pics show.

BUT the food is wonderful and the view is fabulous.

We haven't been in years. There are so many great places within 10-15 minutes drive of the OC that we just dont wish to go all that way....but it was very nice when we went :)

We were there last month, it was excellent. They own Screaming Eagles and their food is also great. It is near Chalet Suisse, so there is no need to make the drive all the way out to Flying Fishbones.

Thanks for the restaurant suggestions. We still haven't heard anything about our exchange for Oct. 2011. I've seen the airline prices climb, also. We may wait until late Spring to decide if we're going to cancel the request and try for something else. FYI, just got back from Hawaii, stayed at the JW Marriott in Ko'Olina on points, went to a presentation at the Ko'Olina TS (beautiful!!), but according to the sales rep, more have joined the points program, and hinted at what everyone on TUG has been inferring- Marriott is holding inventory to make sure the point owners get what they want. But according to one of the above posts, most Aruba owners stay at their resort, and don't usually trade. So I'm not sure there is a lot of inventory at Aruba anyway. We're pretty flexible, so we'll sit tight until April-May and then make a decision. Does anyone know anything about St. Kitts/St. Thomas?
Mish

I've been to St. Thomas 3 times, and I'm a fan (though I like St. John better, it doesn't have direct flights...you have to take a ferry to visit from St. T). St. Kitt's (the entire island) is much less developed than St. thomas, but the Marriott property is quite nice there. I think the grounds at the St. Kitt's Marriott property is more spacious (or at least feels that way).

We just got back from an exchange to St. Thomas Frenchman's Cove. Loved it for many of the same reasons we love Aruba - lots of things to do, great restaurants, great weather. Almost every room has a great view there. Great to sit on the balcony and watch the cruise ships passing by. Just a wonderfully beautiful island with easy access to neighboring islands.

I first reserved the week of April 15-22 at the Marriott Ocean Pointe then I put in a "request first" last April for Aruba or St. Thomas for April, 2011, I have done this in the past and have always been confirmed almost immediately. Last week I saw the airfares rising and realized I better cancel my request and just use my home resort in Singer Island. When I checked the airfares for Florida and they were also outrageous at this point I decided to rent. I placed an add in Red Week and had many bites. I finally found a renter and when I called Marriott to get a guest certificate they told me that I did not have a reservation that it had been cancelled. After a full day going back and forth between Interval saying that I still had the week and Marriott saying that I didn't it has finally been resolved that I can still use the week. Are they trying to kill us from the stress they impose?

They did that to me last year when I canceled a "Request First" and decided to use my 3BR at Frenchman's Cove. We all had our plane reservations and then I noticed my reservation was canceled on marriottrewards.com. I called and they looked and finally found my reservation but had to give it a new Res#. They apparently cancel your Res# as soon as you make a request. It made me very nervous.

Good News! We just received confirmation for a 2bed unit at the Aruba Surfclub. We had to change our dates a little, but that's ok because we haven't booked our flights. Since many of you go to Aruba, is there a good time window to start looking for lower air fares? There pretty high right now. Our trip is for October, and has anyone noticed if the prices drop during the summer?
Thanks for all of your insight into Aruba, I've written down all of the restaraunts and places to see that you've mentioned.
Can't wait!

Congratulations on the exchange!!!
Keep checking daily. I see that you are from NY--check Jet Blue they are only booking through Sept 6th currently, but they may be cheaper. I know AA flies nonstop from NYC and so does Delta. We go at Christmas and New Years so our tickets run almost $800pp. When you trip gets closer send me a PM and I'll give you a restaurant list.
