On Interval's reservation it lists my room as HOBOV. Does that mean anything? Also, usually the Marriott property in which I am staying sends me an email 2 weeks ahead of time to take requests such as dining reservations and room location. I have received no emails yet, and our trip is one week away. Do you know a current email contact for this?

Thank you.

Take a look at this thread to see what the OBOV indicates. The H at the beginning just indicates that it was a points based bulk bank by MVCI.

Get Marriott to add your MR number to your reservation. Then, look at the reservation at Marriott.com. That showed my view for several recent stays. All views were honored-including Ocean Front at the Ocean Club last week.

There are only 2 catagories. Ocean Front about 24 rooms and the balance are Ocean View. I would assume obOV would be Ocean View. They do contact the owners a couple weeks ahead of time. (i usually have all my reservations made by then). Not sure on the rentals.

I was surprised at the difference in one bedrooms. This time we had a dedicated one bedroom (ocean view) Commode in the bathroom with other fixtures, small balcony, less furniture. Second week. Ocean front one bedroom that was part of a lockoff set up. HUGE balcony. Commode in sep. tiny room by itself. Additional living room furniture.

Dioxide,

I knew the H meant that it was a developer deposit, but are we sure that it was a points based bulk bank? I thought it would simply be a week that Marriott deposited?

That's interesting if it is a points based bulk bank...

Best,

Greg

Greg, Take a look at posts #159 and #160 in the Marriott II Unit Codes thread. Based on a small sample reviewed by saintsfanfl and myself we determined the following.

D - MVC Points Bulk
H - Bulk Bank

I apparently reported it incorrectly to travelplanner70. The H indicates weeks based bulk bank by MVCI. Not a points bulk. Which would make sense since Aruba isn't in the trust.

I also looked at two additional confirmations that I have in our II account since coming to this conclusion back in June, and they seem to follow the same lines.

That's very interesting -- I'd missed that MVC does Points Bulk banks -- so the trader gets a week, and the Unit Code is DZZAA or similar?

So Marriott had excess points, and booked a week and bulked banked it? Or do we think they gave II a bunch of points and then II went and booked some weeks with the points?

Interesting -- so two types of bulk banks -- first is the raw week itself (type H) and the second is a points-based week (type D)?

Hmmm.....

Thanks very much,

Greg

Greg,

What I think is happening is that MVCI has excess inventory either in the trust or in the MVC Exchange Company. The inventory would have to be full weeks and not individual days since II works in weeks. MVCI is then bulking that inventory in to II from either the trust or MVC Exchange Company. The confirmations then show MVC POINTS BULK on the Marriott confirmation with a D on the unit code in II. I wouldn't expect them to be giving II actual DC points.

Okay, that makes sense - so in the future we should see less "H" bulk banks as they sell off the Marriott-owned weeks, and more "D" deposits as they stick stuff in from the Trust or the Exchange Company?

Thanks very much,

I am not sure that H banks only come from Marriott owned weeks. I think some of them come from anticipated and actual unutilization of inventory by owners.

I would though expect to see fewer and fewer bulk banks in general as they sell more and more inventory. Most of the big bulk banks from years past were unsold inventory. That unsold inventory simply isn't as plentiful, so those bulk banks may still be there but they will be smaller and more sporadic.

The Ocean Front rooms do have MUCH larger balconies, that is really the biggest differance, along with the view.
