Marriott Air-Hotel Travel Packages-how long can Hotel Cert be extended?

I know hotel certificates can be extended one year. Is there any policy to extending them say two or three years, as long as one calls in to extend before the certif expires?

They expire one yr from issuance. Call Marriott Rewards or Marriott Reservations and they can confirm the expiration date. I called the former when I knew I had to extend four months.

Yes, that's correct, but it's not something I would choose to do. I would worry too much that Marriott might change its mind and say, "Sorry, you're too late!"

Your 2nd sentence throws me off. Are you saying you would prefer not to extend a certificate for multiple yrs thinking Marriott may change its policy unexeptedly in the future? (of course, you WILL call in before each new expiration date)

No. I was responding to your question and I think I read it worng. I would rather not wait until after the expiration date to call Marriott to extend it, even though Marriott currently allows you to do that.

How do you go about doing this? I am going to Hawaii in 2009 using travel package but was thinking about buying TP now because of the 10% bonus miles over at American Airlines. (Didn't think that was a possibility because I didn't know you could extend HC)

That doesn't make sense...if you had to make a reservation, then there would be no point in being able to extend indefinitely, as there is a limit to how far in advance you can make a reservation. I just got a travel package about 2 months ago and didn't have to make a hotel reservation.

The rules were changed within the last two months. See the last post (#56) in this linked thread.

Even though you must now make a hotel reservation when requesting a travel package, you can cancel that reservation and extend the right to use the hotel portion of the package.
